Northern Tier Sports Report
WELLSBORO — NEB had two wrestlers earn runner-up spots, while three total moved on to the District IV Championships from the North Section Tournament Saturday.

Mason Alexander (107), and Kale Howland (160) both took home silver, as Russell Martin (145) came in fourth.

“I think this if the first time we’ve had two finalists since Dawson Brown, and Noah Forbes,” NEB coach Curt Cole said. “They wrestled well.”

Alexander opened with a fall, then got a 17-1 wi in the semifinals. He lost in the finals to Williamson’s Zander Wilson 8-2.

Howland opened with a 6-5 win, then got a fall in the semifinals. In the finals he lost 13-4 to Troy’s Carter Austin.

Martin opened with a 10-5 win, then was pinned in the semifinals. He came back with a 9-1 win in the blood round, but then lost by fall in the third place match.

Three Panthers took fifth - Alex Gomez (139), Ben Ellis (285), and Hunter Comstock (121) - while Connor Eastabrook (172) was sixth.

Gomez and Ellis both went 2-2, as Comstock went 1-2, with Eastabrook going 2-3.

“The kids that were in for fifth and sixth, a few of them ended on a positive not, too,” Cole said.

The three Panthers left will be getting reach for the District IV Championships next weekend.

“Scoring points,” Cole said about their district preparation. “And not being afraid to score points.”
