NTL WRESTLING: CANTON'S VERMILYA, ROCKWELL REACH DISTRICT SEMIFINALS (2025-02-22)

WILLIAMSPORT — Canton got two into the semifinals at the first day of the District IV, Class AA Championships Friday.

Lyle Vermilya (114) and Carson Rockwell (145) both reached the final four, and punched their ticket to the Regional Championships next weekend.

Vermilya opened with a 16-0 tech fall win, then gutted out an 8-6 victory over Montgomery’s Liam Seeley in the quarters. He’ll face Warrior Run’s Chase Wirnsberger in the semifinals.

Rockwell picked up two decision, a 4-1 win in the quarters, then a solid 9-2 victory over Hughesville’s Kile Hartman in the quarters. He’ll face Midd-West’s Matthew Smith in the semifinals.

Leland Pepper (189), Levi Vermilya (107), and Tommy Preston (139) all dropped into the consolations.

Peper pulled out a 4-2 win in his first match, but was then pinned in 36 seconds in his quarterfinal bout. He’ll face Mifflinburg’s Landon Moser in the elimination round.

Preston picked up a 12-0 major in his preliminary bout, but then lost a 19-4 tech fall in the semifinals. He’ll face Southern Columbia’s Gavin Brown in the elimination round.

Levi Vermilya was pinned in 2:35 in his first bout. He’ll face NEB’s Mason Alexander in the elimination round.

Wrestling begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
