NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: FITCH, WILLIAMS LEAD CANTON THROUGH HARD LUCK SEASON (2025-03-11)

Northern Tier Sports Report
It was a tough season for Canton boys’ basketball, as they started off strong, but hit a few bumps en route to a 7-15 finish for the 2024-2025 season.

They went 3-0 to open the year, winning the Galeton Tip-Off Tournament for the second year in a row, then rallying to beat Wyalusing (44-40).

The Warriors would get a tough loss at CV, 48-47, to fall to 3-2, before rolling past Millville (57-45) for a 4-2 record.

A tough loss at Sullivan County (53-46) started a 5-game losing streak, though they were competitive in losses to NEB, and NP-Liberty.

A home win over Williamson (60-38) ended the run, but a 4-game losing streak followed.

Canton would have a nice 3-game run in late January, beating Williamson (68-52), playing NTL Large School power Wellsboro to a 49-46 contest, then getting revenge on CV at home with a 71-62 win to keep them in the playoff race.

Down the stretch, though, they fell in some tough games to Montgomery (44-35), NEB (58-46), and NP-Liberty (76-53).

The NTL boasted some tough competition as Small School champion NP-Liberty won a district title, while Sayre made states, and NEB came up one win shy of reaching the PIAA bracket. In Large School Troy was a district champion, while NP-Mansfield took fourth.

They say good-bye to 3-year stalwarts Ben Fitch, and Talin Williams. Fitch averaged 17.5 PPG, 10.4 RPG, and 1.5 SPG, among some of the highest in the NTL, while Williams scored 11.1 PPG to with 5.5 RPG, and 2.1 BPG.

Sophomore Monte Whitehead was the third highest scorer on the team at 3.5 PPG, along with being third in rebounds at 3.0 RPG.

With five seniors on the team - Fitch, Williams, Andrew Smith, Simon Wile, and Quincy Wesneski - all contributing the Warriors will have a new look next season, with Whitehead, Rylan Wesneski, and Ryder Route taking the lead.
