NTL SOFTBALL: NEB OPENS THE SEASON WITH MERCY RULE WIN OVER CV (2025-03-18)

WESTFIELD — NEB softball pulled out a statement win as they rolled past defending NTL Small School champions, CV, 13-2 in six innings Tuesday.

Orissa Gardner led the way for the Panthers, going 2-for-3 with her first career varsity home run, while adding 3-RBI, with two runs scored.


Kelsea Moore (3-for-4) scored twice, and drove in three runs, as Hannah Berger (2-for-3) had 2-RBI, with three runs scored.


Kiarra DeLancey (2-for-3), and Toni Herb (1-for-3) both scored twice, with Karli Wheaton, and Isabella Kapr also crossing home.


Makenna Callear (1-4), and Abby Keeney both knocked in a run.


Moore started, and got the win, striking out nine in four innings of work, while Callear went the final two striking out six of eight batters.


The Panthers jumped out with three runs in the first, anchored by Gardner’s home run. CV would get one back in the bottom half of the inning for a 3-1 score.


After a scoreless second NEB tacked on two more in the third as Berger doubled in a run, then scored on a Moore hit for a 5-1 lead.


The Indians got another back in the bottom half of the inning to make it 5-2.


NEB added two more runs in the fourth as Callear drove in Kapr, while Herb crossed home on an error for a 7-2 lead.


The Panthers stretched the lead some more, scoring two more runs in the fifth as Wheaton, and Moore both crossed home for a 9-2 advantage.


They broke the game open in the sixth as DeLancey led off with a single, followed by Berger rocking a double, both would later score as Gardner, and Moore also got hits, and crossed home.


NEB (1-0) travels to Williamson on Thursday.
