NTL GIRLS' WRESTLING: NEB KEEPS CHUGGING ALONG IN YEAR TWO (2025-03-19)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportIt was year two for the NEB girls’ wrestling program, and the Panthers continued to make strides, with Anaiah Kolesar earning another state medal, and three wrestlers making it all the way to regionals.
“We are very pleased with how the season turned out,” said NEB coach Tyler Wheaton. “We do not have a lot of duals with only six girls, but we did end up 4-0 in dual action. We had a full 22 point schedule. The individual tournaments we entered, we always had a lady make the podium. Four of the six girls had winning records with two of them having 20 plus win seasons (Mackenzie Clark, Anaiah Kolesar, Cora Franklin, Ava Lambert). All of our girls captured at least one win. We qualified three (Anaiah Kolesar, Ava Lambert, Cora Franklin) for regionals and one to states. Anaiah Kolesar capped off her season with a regional title (the first in our female program history) and with a fourth place finish at states, the best finish for a female out of the NTL and one of seven girls to medal from District IV. Cora Franklin was our loan senior who won a NTL Sportsmanship award and is also all academic along with Ava Lambert and Anaiah Kolesar.”
In dual meet action they beat Central Columbia (35-24), Wellsboro (25-24), Sayre (36-0), and Sugar Valley (24-18).
At the D4 Championships they had four semifinalists, with Lambert, Kolesar, and Franklin all getting to regionals.
At regionals Kolesar finally beat her nemesis, Montgomery’s Emily Murphy, for the Central Regional Title. At states Kolesar repeated her fourth place finish from last year.
Looking ahead the Panthers bring back five of six on the roster - Clark, Kolesar, Riley Lamson, Lambert, and Dariela Reyes-Ramirez - as they work to continue to grow the program.
