NTL BASEBALL: ROUGH START DOOMS CANTON AGAINST CV (2025-03-22)
Northern Tier Sports ReportCANTON — A rough start put Canton baseball in too deep a hole as they fell to CV, 12-4, during NTL baseball action Saturday.
The Indians led 5-1 after one, and pushed the lead to 10-1 after five. It got as bad as 12-1 in the middle of the seventh when Canton rallied in the bottom half, scoring three runs, but were just too far down.
Ben Fitch (2-for-3) had a home run, and a double along with two runs scored, and an RBI, as Michael Beers (2-for-3) had a double with an RBI.
Aiden Dowling (1-for-3) also had a hit as Bailey Gardner, and Carson Castle each scored. Rylan Wesneski chipped in with an RBI.
The Warriors went through five pitchers, as Gardner started but didn’t record an out, allowing four walks, one hit, and five earned runs.
Reed Taylor tossed the next four innings, with two strikeouts, seven hits, one walk, and three earned runs.
Beers pitched a third, with one strikeout, no hits, two walks, and two earned runs, followed by Castle going two-thirds of an inning, allowing one walk.
Wesneski pitched the final two innings, with three strikeouts, three hits, two walks, and two earned runs.
Despite being down 5-0 when he came to bat Fitch hit a first pitch home run to left field to make it 5-1.
Canton wouldn’t score again until the bottom of the seventh when three straight errors off the bats of Castle, Fitch, and Gardner made it 12-2. Fitch then scored on a Beers double for a 12-3 game.
After an out Wesneski drove in Gardner on a sacrifice fly for the 12-4 final.
Canton (1-1) will off until April 1, when they travel to Williamson.
