NTL SOFTBALL: TOWANDA HAS A BIG NIGHT WITH THE BATS IN WIN OVER WELLSBORO (2025-03-27)
Northern Tier Sports ReportWELLSBORO — It was a hit-fest for Towanda softball in their 16-2 win over in five innings over Wellsboro during NTL action Thursday.
The Knights pounded out 13 hits as they scored in every inning, beginning with two runs in the first. They pushed one across in the second, then broke the game open with a 5-run third.
Wellsboro got their two in the bottom half of the inning, but Towanda went back to work in the fourth, tacking on two more, then finished the game out with six runs in the fifth.
Leila Cobb (2-for-4) had a home run, 4-RBI, and a run scored, as Kynlee Kunkle (2-for-3) had a triple, three runs scored, and an RBI.
Tae-Lynn Brabant (2-for-4) scored, while driving in a run, as Layla Miller (2-for-3) had two runs, with an RBI.
Aleah Johnson (1-for-2) had a triple, with two runs, and 2-RBI, while Brooklyn Evans (1-for-2) had a double with four runs scored, and 2-RBI.
Caedence Wells (1-for-3) had a double with 2-RBI, and a run scored, with Brynsen Vargason (1-for-3) scoring twice, and driving in a run. Payton Perry (1-for-4) rounded things out with a hit.
Johnson started, and went four innings for the win, striking out eight with two walks, four hits, and two earned runs.
Cobb tossed the final inning with three strikeouts, and one hit.
In the first inning Brabant hit a 1-out single, then scored on an Evans double. Evans later scored on a Johnson ground out for the 2-0 lead.
In the second Kunkle led off with a triple, then scored on an error off the bat of Cobb for a 3-0 lead.
In the fourth Towanda would score three of their four runs with two outs. Evans would reach on an error, followed by Johnson drawing a walk.
After an out Evans would score on a passed ball, followed by Kunkle drawing a walk. After a second out Wells doubled in Johnson and Kunkle, then scored herself on a Miller hit.
Two batters later Brabant pushed Miller across with a hit for an 8-0 lead.
In the fourth Evans drew a lead-off walk, then scored on a Johnson triple. Vargason then drew a walk, and would later score on a hit by Cobb for a 10-2 lead.
In the fifth Towanda would score all six runs with two outs, as Miller led off the inning with a hit. After back to back outs Miller stole home, followed by Evans drawing a walk.
Johnson would get hit by a pitch, followed by Vargason driving in Evans. A Kunkle single brought in Johnson, then Cobb’s centerfield home run brought everybody in for the 16-2 final.
Towanda (2-2) hosts Susquehanna on Friday.
