NTL SOFTBALL: CANTON TOPS BUCKTAIL IN WILD ONE (2025-03-28)
Northern Tier Sports ReportCANTON — Canton got their first win of the season, using a 9-run fourth inning to rally past Bucktail, then hold them off late for a 13-11 non-league softball victory.
The Bucks led 6-1 in the middle of the fourth when the Warriors rallied to take a 10-6 lead. They added another run in the fifth, while Bucktail got that one back in the top of the sixth.
Canton got two important insurance runs in the sixth, as Bucktail rallied one last time in the seventh, scoring four runs, but the Warriors held them off.
Jaylee Ward (3-for-4) had a double, a triple, 3-RBI, and a run scored, as Addi Pepper (1-for-2) had a home run, with four runs scored, and 4-RBI.
Tiffany Acla (2-for-3) had a double, a triple, two runs scored, and an RBI, with Tara Gilbert (1-for-3) scoring twice.
Trinity Acla (1-for-2) drove in a run, as Alyssa May, Charleigh Anderson, Lydia Roupp, and Nevaeh Vroman all crossed home.
Gilbert got the win, striking out eight with two walks, 15 hits, and 11 runs, eight of which were earned.
Bucktail went 2-0 in the first but Canton came back in the second as a 2-out Acla triple scored Pepper to cut the deficit in half.
The Bucks added four more in the top of the fourth, but then came Canton’s 9-run inning.
Anderson was hit by a pitch to lead things off, followed by Pepper getting walked. Roupp then got beaned to load the bases.
Anderson would steal home, followed by Vroman drawing a walk to reload the bases. Pepper then took home, followed by Tiffany Acla drawing a walk as the scoreboard said 6-3.
Roupp later scored on an error after a fly out, then Ward broke things open with a 2-run double to knot the game up at 6-6.
May and Gilbert both got hit by a pitch to reload the bases. After an out Ward stole home, then Pepper cleared them with her 3-run home run for the 4-run Warrior lead.
Ward tripled in Trinity Acla in the fifth to make it 11-6, while Bucktail pushed one across in the top of the sixth for an 11-7 score.
In the bottom of the sixth Gilbert led off with a hit, then scored on an error off the bat of Pepper. Tiffany Acla then hit a 2-out double to drive in Pepper for a 13-7 lead.
The Bucks would make it 13-11 with one out, and the tying run at first base. However, Ward got the lead runner at third on their next at bat, then Gilbert induced a ground out to end the game.
Canton (1-3) is at Williamson on Tuesday with a 4:30 p.m. start.
