NTL BOYS' BASKETBALL: TROY'S BIG THREE OF WOODWARD, BURBAGE, AND CHIMICS HEADLINE BC BOYS' BASKETBALL ALL-STARS (2025-03-29)
Northern Tier Sports ReportAnother exciting year for Bradford County boys’ basketball teams as Troy blew through the NTL again on their way to a district title, while Sayre gutted their way to the state playoffs. All in all, four different teams made the playoffs.
The Trojans were led by Evan Woodward, JB Burbage, and Lincoln Chimics. All three averaged double figures, with Burbage scoring 1,000 points, and all three were just as instrumental in their pressure defense that pestered opposing offenses all year. The group averaged 43.3 PPG, 16.7 RPG, 10.7 APG, and 8.3 SPG. They were also the leaders on and off the court, making them the Co-Players of the Year for the Bradford County Boys’ Basketball All-star Team.
Sayre’s Nick Pellicano put up 16.5 PPG and 3.7 APG as he led the Redskins to a third place finish in the District IV, Class AA tournament. His ability to get to the basket made him one of the toughest players to guard, earning him the Offensive Player of the Year honors.
Towanda sophomore Markell Garner came into his own in the paint for the Knights this season. His rebounding made him a double-double threat, and his shot blocking helped anchor a tough Towanda defense that allowed them to gut out wins, making him the Defensive Player of the Year.
At the other end of the line-up freshman point guard Boom Thompson stepped in, and ran the show for the playoff bound Knights as he scored 8.5 PPG, while also being a pest on defense, earning him the Newcomer of the Year Award.
The Troy boys’ basketball team went undefeated in NTL play for the second year in a row, while also climbing that mountain of a district title after coming up short last season. They did this despite losing half their rotation from a year ago to graduation, earning coach Bob Woodward the Coach of the Year honors.
