THE WEEK AHEAD: SPRING SPORTS STAYS BUSY AS THE CALENDAR TURNS TO APRIL (2025-03-30)

Northern Tier Sports Report
Going to be a week of weather whiplash as the week starts in the 70’s, falls to the 40’s, then goes up and down through the weekend, with plenty of chances for rain. Spring sports, though, has gotten through March with few cancellations, so we’ll see if that continues into April.

BASEBALL

Tuesday, April 1

Canton (1-1) at Williamson (1-1), 4:30 p.m.: Both teams come in with even records as the Warriors have a loss to Northern Potter, and a win over Sayre.


Troy (2-2) at Towanda (2-2), 4:30 p.m.: An up and down start for both squads, with Towanda coming off a big win over Elk Lake, while Troy recently fell to NP-Mansfield.


Wellsboro (1-5) at Wyalusing (1-5), 4:30 p.m.: The Hornets’ one win is over Towanda, while the Rams are looking for their first league win.


Thursday, April 3

Canton (1-1) at Towanda (2-2), 4:30 p.m.: A big cross-over contest for both teams as the Warriors are battling to defend their league title, and the Black Knights want to make districts.


Williamson (1-1) at Troy (2-2), 4:30 p.m.: A cross-over game for the Trojans as they look to get back on track this week.


Saturday, April 5

Canton (1-1) at South Williamsport (1-1), 1 p.m.: The Mounties have a win over St. John Neumann, and a loss to Hughesville as Canton gets ready for playoff action.


SOFTBALL

Monday, March 31

Susquehanna at NEB (4-1), 4:30 p.m.: It’s been a strong start for the Panthers this season as they open the week, and end the week, with non-league games.


Tuesday, April 1

Canton (1-3) at Williamson (3-0), 4:30 p.m.: The battle of the Warriors, as Williamson sits on top of the District IV, Class AA standings. Canton is coming off their first win of the season, beating Bucktail.


Troy (2-2) at Towanda (3-2), 4:30 p.m.: A big divisional game with two teams that have a pair of big wins, and tough losses. Both teams have dropped heartbreakers to NPL, and Athens.


Wellsboro (1-4) at Wyalusing (1-4), 4:30 p.m.: The Rams righted the ship with a win over Blue Ridge, and will have another good chance at a win as they welcome the Hornets. Wellsboro recently beat Sayre for their first win of the season.


Thursday, April 3

Canton (1-3) at Towanda (3-2), 4:30 p.m.: The first cross-over game for either team as the Knights look to keep pace in the NTL standings while Canton battles to get back to .500.


NEB (4-1) at Wyalusing (1-4), 4:30 p.m.: Always a fun game between these rivals as the Panthers look to keep pace with Williamson in the NTL Small School standings.


Williamson (3-0) at Troy (2-2), 4:30 p.m.: An important game district wise as both teams have big playoff ambitions in Class AA.


Saturday, April 5

Benton (0-1) at NEB (4-1), 11 a.m.: The Panthers finish the week with a home non-league contest as they work their way up the District IV, Class A standings.


CV (2-1) at Wyalusing (1-4), 11 a.m.: The Rams welcome CV, whose only loss has been to NEB in their season opener.


TRACK & FIELD

Tuesday, April 1

Towanda, NP-Mansfield, at Wyalusing, 4 p.m.: A big tri-meet as the Rams welcome Towanda, and NP-Mansfield. The Towanda girls are coming off a sweep in a tri-meet last week.


NEB, Sayre, at Troy, 4 p.m.: The home opener for Troy as they battle against an NEB boys’ team that swept Towanda, and Canton last week.


Friday, April 4

Troy, Towanda, NEB, Wyalusing at Canton’s Kirby Classic, 3 p.m.: Canton’s big early season invitational will feature several NTL teams, along with Hughesville from down south. 


BOYS’ TENNIS

Monday, March 31

Towanda (2-1) at CV (0-2), 4 p.m.: A make-up from last week as the Knights are coming off a win over Galeton. CV opened the season with losses to Galeton, and Wellsboro.


Tuesday, April 1

Towanda (2-1) at Wellsboro (4-3), 4 p.m.: The Knights look to knock-off the defending league champions, who are 3-0 in NTL matches this year.


Thursday, April 3

Towanda (2-1) at Central Columbia (3-1), 4 p.m.: The third road match in four days for Towanda. Central has wins over Bloomsburg, Berwick, and Loyalsock, with a loss to Danville.
