NTL SOFTBALL: NEB ROLLS PAST SUSQUEHANNA (2025-03-31)

Northern Tier Sports Report
ROME — Northeast Bradford softball won their fourth in a row as they rolled past Susquehanna, 12-2 in five innings, during non-league action Monday.

The Panthers jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first, then scored two runs in each of the second, third, and fifth innings to nab the win.

“It feels really good to keep the winning going,” NEB coach MaKaylah Leljedal said about her team’s fourth win a row. “It made me a little nervous when we came out and lost the second game of the season, but they’ve been doing a great job, and they’re not letting down. I’m very proud of them.”

The Panthers have scored 59 runs over their last four games as they pounded out 14 hits against the Sabres on Monday.

“That first inning was very exciting,” remarked Leljedal. “We just talked about in our huddle there, that’s how I want them to come out of very game right from the beginning, hitting that way. We got some big hits from all different grades, not just our seniors.”

Kiarra DeLancey (3-for-3) had a double, with two runs scored, and an RBI, as Hannah Berger (3-for-3) had a triple, three runs scored, and 2-RBI.

Orissa Gardner (3-for-4) had two doubles, and two runs scored, with Toni Herb (2-for-3) scoring twice, with an RBI.

Kelsea Moore (1-for-4) had a double with a run scored, and 2-RBI, as Makenna Callear (1-for-3), and Jaylin Wheaton both crossed home. Abby Keaney (1-for-3) knocked in two runs, as well.

Moore got the win in the circle, going all five innings to strike out nine with three hits, one walk, and two runs.

After falling down 1-0 in the first Callear got things started in the bottom half with a single, followed by DeLancey reaching on a hit.

Moore cleared the bases with a double, then scored on Berger’s triple for a 3-1 lead. Gardner’s double then made it 4-1 as Berger scored.

Herb singled in Gardner, followed by Keane plating Herb on a ground out to make it 6-1 Panthers.

They added two more in the second with Berger drawing a lead-off walk, followed by Gardner doubling her in.

Two batters later Keaney drove in Gardner to make it 8-1.

NEB added two more in the third as DeLancey led off with a double then scored on a Berger hit. Gardner then drove Berger in for a 10-1 lead.

Susquehanna got one back in the top of the fourth, but NEB ended the game in the fifth as  Gardner reached on a fielder’s choice, and was plated by an Herb single. Herb later scored for the mercy rule win.

NEB (5-1) now starts NTL cross-over play as they head to Wyalusing on Thursday.

“We have to play some very challenging teams coming up,” Leljedal remarked. “We have a big game against Wyalusing. I’m excited to see them play, but I think we’re ready.”
