NTL BASEBALL: A PAIR OF ROUGH INNINGS DOOM CANTON AGAINST WILLIAMSON (2025-04-01)

TIOGA JUNCTION — It looked more like a football score than baseball but 21 runs between two innings from Williamson doomed Canton as they fell 22-13 during NTL action Tuesday.

Canton jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first, with both teams getting a run in the third. In the top of the fourth Canton pushed their lead to 8-1, but Williamson came back fast in the bottom half, rolling off 10 runs to take an 11-8 lead.


After a scoreless fifth Canton retook the lead with a 5-run sixth, only to watch Williamson rattle off 11 in the bottom half to get the win.


Mason Stierly (2-for-3) had a triple, 3-RBI, and a run scored for Canton, as Reed Taylor (2-for-4) had 3-RBI, with a run scored.


Aiden Dowling (2-for-4) scored twice, with Michael Beers (1-for-3) getting a double with a run scored, and an RBI.


Bailey Gardner (1-for-4) scored twice, as Carson Castle (1-for-3) scored twice, and drove in a run. Luke Crawley crossed home three times.


Tommy Preston (1-for-3) and Ben Fitch each had an RBI, with Lee Tubach (1-for-1) getting a hit.


Seven different pitchers saw the mound for Canton as Taylor went the first two innings with four strikeouts, one walk, and two hits.


Beers tossed the next inning, striking out two with tow walks, one hit, and one earned run.


Isaiah Colton would come on, and didn’t record an out, allowing two hits, two walks, and four earned runs. Castle came on for him, going one inning, with two strikeouts, one walk, three hits, and six runs, none of which were earned.


Rylan Wesneski pitched an inning with three strikeouts, four walks, three hits, and six runs, five of which were earned.


Dowling would then take the mound, but didn’t record an out, allowing two walks, and four runs, three of which were earned.


Grant Pepper finished things out, going an inning with two strikeouts, three hits, and one earned run.


In the first Dowling, and Gardner had back to back 1-out hits followed by Beers reaching on an error to load the bases.


That set up Taylor’s 2-run single, scoring Dowling, and Gardner, for a 2-0 lead. Beers would later score on an off his steal of third, followed by Castle reaching on an error. John Whitehead would come on to run for Taylor, scoring on an error for a 4-0 advantage.


Crawley would draw a walk, setting up Stierly’s 2-run single, which scored Castle, and Crawley, for the 6-0 lead.


They made it 7-0 in the top of the third as a Fitch ground out scored Crawley.


After Williamson got on the scoreboard Canton added to their lead in the fourth with Gardner reaching on an error, then scoring off a Beers double for the 7-run advantage.


Then came the big Williamson inning to take an 11-8 lead.


Canton would rally with two outs in the top of the sixth as Taylor singled in Dowling, followed by Taylor scoring on a Castle hit to make it 11-10.


An error off the bat of Crawley scored Castle to tie the game up. Stierly then tippled in Crawley, followed by Preston scoring Stierly to make it 13-11 Canton.


Williamson answered with an 11-run bottom half as their first 12 batters all reached. The game was called after the at the end of the sixth.


Canton (1-2) will travel to Towanda on Tuesday with a 4:30 p.m. start.
