NTL SOFTBALL: CANTON FALLS AT NP-LIBERTY (2025-04-14)
Northern Tier Sports ReportMANSFIELD — A rough fifth inning doomed Canton softball as they fell to NP-Liberty 11-1 in five innings during NTL action Monday.
NPL trickled out two runs in the first and third, and one in the second to take a 5-0 lead. Canton got on the scoreboard with a run in the top of the fifth, but the Mounties ended the game with a 6-run bottom half.
Jaylee Ward (2-for-3) had a multi-hit game as Tara Gilbert (1-for-3), and Trinity Acla (1-for-2) also had hits. Skylar Gowin scored their run, while Alyssa May had an RBI.
Gilbert took the loss, going 4 2/3-innings with two strikeouts, one walk, 11 hits, and nine earned runs.
In the top of the fifth Gowin drew a 1-out walk, then got moved around the bases on a Ward single, and an Addi Pepper hit by pitch.
May’s ground out allowed her to take home.
Canton (1-6) hosts Troy on Wednesday with a 4:30 p.m. start.
