NTL SOFTBALL: MOORE LEADS NEB PAST CV (2025-04-15)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportROME — Much like the weather on Tuesday, NEB’s 2-1 win over CV in NTL softball wasn’t pretty, but after losing a pair of close games in their last two outings Panther coach MaKaylah Leljedal would take it.
“It’s a big win for us,” Leljedal said. “We love playing CV. They are so much fun to play with a great group of girls, but it’s definitely a big win because they’re such a great team.”
They got a strong performance out of Kelsea Moore in the circle. She battled a tough CV line-up, and some wintry weather conditions, to get the win with nine strikeouts, two walks, two hits, and no earned runs.
“Kelsea really threw a great game tonight, especially with the cold weather, and the rain - it’s hard to pitch in that,” Leljedal said. “She didn’t let it bother her, and kept pushing through it.”
They were scoreless through four until CV broke through in the top of the fifth. NEB answered in the bottom half of the inning, then went ahead with a run in the sixth to get the win.
“Our hitting hasn’t been the best lately,” said Leljedal. “But when we do get on we’re trying to make those runs happen. The base running has been pretty good, and we’re just taking advantage of those passed balls.”
Moore (2-for-3) scored the go ahead run, while Toni Herb (1-for-3) scored the tying run. Orissa Gardner had an RBI, as McKenna Callear (1-for-2), and Ava Lambert (1-for-2) also had hits.
After both teams threatened throughout the first four innings CV used a throwing error in the top of the fifth to take a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom half of the inning Herb led things off with a hit, then later scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-1.
In the sixth Moore led off with a hit, then was brought home on a Gardner sacrifice fly for the 2-1 win.
The win keeps NEB (6-3) in the hunt for the NTL Small School title as they have three league losses to division leader Williamson’s two.
The Panthers travel to South Williamsport on Thursday.
