NTL SOFTBALL: TROY USES BIG THIRD INNING TO PULL AWAY FROM CANTON (2025-04-16)

CANTON — Troy broke open a back and forth game with Canton behind a 13-run third inning as they defeated the Warriors, 24-6, during NTL softball action Wednesday.

The Trojans led 6-3 after one, but a 3-run bottom second for Canton tied the game up. Then came Troy’s 13-run third, followed by a 5-run fourth to clinch the win.


The Trojans had 20 hits in all, led by Lauren Reed (3-for-4) with two doubles, 8-RBI, and three runs scored.


Haidyn Watson (3-for-5) had a double, 3-RBI, and three runs scored, as Amber James (3-for-4) had 2-RBI, with a run scored.


Madi Palmer (3-for-4) scored four times, with Lauren Ridall (3-for-4) scoring three times. Kali Ayres (2-for-3) drove in three runs with two runs scored, as Olivia Champluvier (2-for-2) scored four times with 2-RBI.


Sydnee Bellows (1-for-3) drove in two with three runs scored, as Marlee Stanton also crossed home.


Watson started, and went one inning, with one strikeout, no walks, four hits, and four earned runs. Champluvier went the next three to get the win, striking out two with one walk, two hits, and two earned runs.


Jaylee Ward (2-for-3) had 2-RBI with a run scored, as Alyssa May (1-for-2) had a triple with 2-RBI, and a run scored.


Neveah Vroman (1-for-1) had a double with a run scored, as Addi Pepper (1-for-3) finished with a run scored. Skylar Gowin (1-for-2), and Charleigh Anderson both scored runs, as well, as Trinity Acla drove in a run.


Ward started, and went 2 1/3-innings with one strikeout, one walk, 10 hits, and 15 runs, eight of which were earned. Tara Gilbert tossed the next 1 2/3-innings with no strikeouts, two walks, nine hits, and nine runs, seven of which were earned.


Ridall opened the game with a single, followed by Ayres drawing a walk. Watson doubled both in for a 2-0 lead.


After two outs Watson would score on a passed ball, then Champluvier kept the rally going by getting hit by a pitch. Palmer then singled, setting up Bellows’ RBI double for a 4-0 lead.


Reed then drove in Palmer, and Bellows to make it 6-0.


Canton responded in the bottom half as Ward and Pepper hit back to back singles. May then tripled both in to cut it to 6-2.


May later scored on an Acla ground out for a 6-3 game after one.


In the bottom of the second the first four Canton batters reached, as Vroman led off with a double. Gowin then singled, followed by Anderson getting hit by a pitch to load the bases.


Ward singled in Vroman, and Gowin to make it 6-5, with Anderson later taking home on a steal to knot the score up at 6-all.


Then came the inning where Troy batted around, beginning with Champluvier hitting a lead-off double. Palmer then singled, setting up Bellows’ RBI ground out to make it 7-6.


Reed then drove in Palmer for an 8-6 score. 


Ridall and Ayres had back to back singles to load the bases, setting up Watson, who brought them all in to make it 11-6.


Watson was then plated by James for a 12-6 score. 


Stanton would reach on an error, setting up Champluvier’s hit that scored both James and Stanton for a 14-6 ball game.


Palmer and Bellows then had a hit and walked, setting up Reed’s 3-run double to make it 17-6.


After Ridall was hit by a pitch Ayres singled in Reed, and Ridall, for a 19-6 game..


In the fourth Champluvier drew a lead-off walk, followed by Palmer singling to put two base runners on. Champluvier would get plated by Bellows, followed by a Reed double driving in Palmer and Bellows for a 22-6 score.


Ridall singled, followed by Ayres driving in Reed. A James hit plated Ridall for the 24-6 final.


Canton (1-7) turns around and hosts Wyalusing on Thursday with a 4:30 p.m., while Troy (5-2) is off until next week.
