NTL SOFTBALL: WYALUSING POWERS THEIR WAY PAST CANTON (2025-04-18)
Northern Tier Sports ReportCANTON — The top of Wyalusing’s batting order went 11-for-14 as the Rams topped Canton, 15-3 in five innings, during NTL softball action Thursday.
“Five in a row feels good,” Wyalusing head coach Brett Jayne said. “The girls have been working real hard. We've been working on our hitting because we've basically been inside because the weather has been so bad. We really wanted to play North Penn-Liberty the other day, but the weather turned for the worst, so we're looking forward to getting a shot at them. (Addison) Fluck pitched a good game tonight, only giving up one walk and the girls put the ball in play well, which that's what we need to do.”
Rachel Wilson (4-for-4) had a double, 5-RBI, and three runs scored, as Addisyn Bly (3-for-4) had a triple, four runs scored, and an RBI.
Kylie Pickett (2-for-3) had a double, 3-RBI, and two runs scored, with Treanna Nickeson (2-for-3) scoring three times, with an RBI.
Fluck (2-for-3) and Kyla Carpenter (1-for-3) each drove in a run, as Raelea Harvey, Ellie Adams, and Kenda Millard all scored.
Fluck struck out seven in the win, while allowing eight hits, and three runs.
Tara Gilbert (3-for-3) drove in two runs, while also scoring, to lead Canton, as Jaylee Ward (1-for-3) had a double with a run scored.
Alyssa May (1-for-3) also scored, as Tiffany Acla (1-for-3) had an RBI. Neaveh Vroman (1-for-3), and Charleigh Anderson (1-for-1) also had hits.
Gilbert went the first two innings to take the loss, striking out one with seven hits, four walks, and 10 runs, five of which were earned.
Ward went the final three innings, striking out three with seven hits, two walks, and five runs, four of which were earned.
The Rams jumped out in the top of the first as Bly led off with a single, followed by Nickeson earning a walk. Pickett then plated Bly, followed by Wilson driving in Nickeson for a 2-0 lead.
After two outs Wilson would score on a passed ball, followed by Ferris earning a walk. Fluck then singled in Harvey for the 4-0 lead.
Canton answered in the bottom half as Ward led off with a double. After an out May singled, setting up Gilbert’s 2-run hit to cut the lead in half.
After an out Acla drove in Gilbert to make it a 1-run game after one.
In the second Nickeson drew a 1-out walk, then later scored on an error off the bat of Pickett. Pickett would score on a hit from Wilson for a 6-3 lead.
After a second out Wilson would score on a Carpenter hit for the 4-run advantage.
The first five Wyalusing batters reached base to start the third as Millard walked, followed by back to back hits from Bly and Nickeson.
A walk to Pickett scored Millard, then Wilson hit a 2-run single for a 10-3 lead. Canton would get three straight outs after that to end the at bat.
In the fourth Fluck led off with a hit, with her courtesy runner, Adams, scoring on Bly’s double. Bly later score on a wild pitch that bounced over the back strop for a 12-3 lead.
Canton got a second out but the Rams kept moving as Pickett got things going again with a single. She scored on Wilson’s double, who scored on an error of the bat of Kirra Millard for a 14-3 game.
Wyalusing’s final run came as Alaina VandeMark reached on an error, with Bly re-entering for her. She was plated by a Nickeson hit.
Canton (1-8) will look to rebound as they host Millville on Saturday morning.
Wyalusing (5-4) hosts Wyoming on Friday as they look to keep the 5-game win streak going.
“Should be a good non league test,” Jayne said. “They usually have a pretty good program. Next week is brutal. We’re at Williamson on Tuesday, and then we have the North Penn Liberty makeup game on Wednesday, and we got Towanda home on Thursday. And then we go right into Troy and Athens the following week.”
