NTL BASEBALL: TOWANDA SPLITS DOUBLE-HEADER ON SATURDAY (2025-04-19)

WYSOX — Towanda baseball had a mixed day in their double-header, falling to Athens 6-2 in a make-up but then rolling past Edison 15-0 in three innings Saturday.

ATHENS 6, TOWANDA 2

The Knights led 2-0 after one, but the Wildcats took a 3-2 lead in the third. They added one more in the fourth, then scored two more in the sixth.

Jack Wheaton (1-for-3), and Owen Lane (1-for-3) had hits as Boom Thompson, and Wheaton scored the runs. Gianni Assante drove in a run.

Dawson Butts started, and 3 2/3-innings to take the loss, striking out four with four walks, five hits, and four earned runs.

Gianni Assante went 2 1/3-innings with one strikeout, one walk, four hits, and two earned runs. Brad Assante tossed the final inning, with two strikeouts, and a walk.

In the first Thompson reached on an error, followed by Wheaton hitting a single two batters later. An error off the bat of Assante scored Thompson, while Wheaton scored on a passed ball.

TOWANDA 15, EDISON 0, 3 INNINGS

A 9-run second inning propelled the Knights to this non-league win. They opened with a run in the first, then scored five more in the third to secure the win.

Rylee Sluyter (3-for-3) had a double with three runs scored, as Jack Tavani (2-for-3) had a double, 4-RBI, and a run scored.

Thompson (2-for-3) scored twice, and drove in a run, as Gianni Assante 2-for-3) scored twice, and had 2-RBI.

Avery Butts (1-for-2) had a double, a run scored, and an RBI, as Wheaton (1-for-2) drove in two runs while scoring twice. 

Dawson Butts scored three times and had an RBI, as Lucas Vincent drove in two while scoring once.

Jack Tavani went all three innings to get the win, striking out three with one hit.

In the first Sluyter led off with a hit then scored two batters later on an error off the bat of Wheaton for the 1-0 lead.

Dawson Butts reached to start off the second on an error, followed by Tavani getting a hit. They both scored on an error off the bat of Vincent for a 3-0 lead.

After a sacrifice by Wil Shrawder Avery Butts doubled in Vincent. Sluyter kept the inning going with a hit, while a Thompson single scored Avery Butts.

Wheaton then drove in Sluyter and Thompson with a hit to make it 7-0.

After an Assante single Wheaton would score on an error off the bat of Dawson Butts. Assante and Dawson Butts then both scored on an error off the bat of Tavani for a 10-0 lead.

In the third Sluyter got things going with a 1-out double, followed by Thompson singling, and Wheaton drawing a walk to load the bases.

Assante then brought in Sluyter and Thompson with a hit, followed by Wheaton scoring on an error off the bat of Dawson Butts.

Up 13-0 Tavani ended the game with a 2-run double.

Towanda (4-5) welcomes South Williamsport on Tuesday with a 4:30 p.m. start.
