THE WEEK AHEAD: LOOKS LIKE GOOD WEATHER FOR A BUSY WEEK (2025-04-20)
Northern Tier Sports ReportFinally, it looks like we’re going to get a good full week of comfortable temperatures and plenty of sunshine, save for the possibility of showers moving in later in the week. It’s just in time for the second half of the regular season for spring sports.
TRACK & FIELD
Tuesday, April 22
NP-Mansfield at Towanda, 3 p.m.: The Knights host NPM as they come off some stronger performances last week.
NEB at Wellsboro, 4 p.m.: The Panthers head west for this dual against a tough Hornets squad as they look to improve off some good performances last week.
Troy, Sayre, Wyalusing at Athens, 4 p.m.: A big quad-meet that will feature several of the most talented athletes in the NTL.
Williamson at Canton, 4 p.m.: The battle of the Warriors as Canton looks to pick up a pair of dual meet wins.
Friday, April 25
Troy, Canton, Towanda, NEB at Wyalusing’s Lasagna Invitational, 3 p.m.: A big one as most of the NTL plus a few teams from down south, District II, and New York will be on hand for one of the premier invites of the season.
SOFTBALL
Monday, April 21
Canton (2-8) at Wellsboro (2-5), 4:30 p.m.: A make-up as the Warriors head west. Canton is coming off a big win over Millville this past weekend, while the Hornets haven’t played in nearly two weeks.
Tuesday, April 22
Troy (5-2) at Wellsboro (2-5), 4:30 p.m.: The Trojans ride a 3-game win streak into Wellsboro, whom they beat in their season opener.
Wyalusing (6-4) at Williamson (5-3), 4:30 p.m.: The Rams put their 6-game win streak on the line as they take on a tough Warriors team.
Athens (8-0) at NEB (6-4), 4:30 p.m.: The Wildcats are coming off a big win over NP-Liberty as they look to run their win streak to nine games. NEB is looking to bounce back as they’re 1-3 over their last four games.
Canton (2-8) at Sayre (2-6), 4:30 p.m.: Canton will be looking for revenge as Sayre beat them in their season opener back in March.
South Williamsport (9-2) at Towanda (5-3), 4:30 p.m.: The Knights take on a tough Mounties squad that is riding a 4-game win streak.
Thursday, April 24
Athens (8-0) at Troy (5-2), 4:30 p.m.: The Wildcats held off a Troy rally to win the first one up in the valley as the Trojans look to get back into the NTL Large School title race.
Towanda (5-3) at Wyalusing (6-4), 4:30 p.m.: The Rams are hoping for a different result than the first time while Towanda comes into the week on a 2-game win streak.
Canton (2-8) at CV (3-5), 4:30 p.m.: CV will be looking to pick up wins as they try to get back to .500, while Canton will play their third game in four days.
Williamson (5-3) at NEB (6-4), 4:30 p.m.: The Warriors edged NEB 5-0 in their first meeting. This game will go a long way towards deciding the NTL Small School title.
Saturday, April 26
Midd-West (3-3) at Troy (5-2), 10 a.m.: Troy ends the week with Midd-West, a team that they always seem to have exciting games with.
NEB (6-4) at Sullivan County (5-3), 1 p.m.: The Griffins are having a strong season with a recent win over Muncy. Both teams are battling for playoff positioning in Class A.
Notre Dame at Towanda (5-3), 1:30 p.m.: Towanda ends the week with a battle against a tough Crusader team from above the border.
BASEBALL
Monday, April 21
NP-Mansfield (8-1) at Wyalusing (2-7), 11 a.m.: A morning game, the Tigers took the first one out there, but it was close for three innings.
Tuesday, April 22
Troy (5-4) at Wellsboro (3-5), 4:30 p.m.: The Trojans are coming off a pair of losses over the weekend, while the Hornets are looking to claw back to .500.
Canton (2-7) at Sayre (2-9), 4:30 p.m.: Canton beat Sayre in their season opener and will need to start getting some wins if they’re going to rally and make the playoffs.
Wyalusing (2-7) at Williamson (2-3), 4:30 p.m.: Williamson hasn’t played in nearly two weeks as the Rams look to get a road win.
South Williamsport (3-4) at Towanda (4-5), 4:30 p.m.: The Knights are coming off a big win over Edison as they make a playoff push, starting with a tough Mounties squad.
Thursday, April 24
Athens (9-1) at Troy (6-4), 4:30 p.m.: If the Trojans are going to get back into the NTL Large School race they’ll need a win here against a tough Wildcat squad.
Towanda (4-5) at Wyalusing (2-7), 4:30 p.m.: The third game in four days, fourth game in six days going back to Saturday for the Rams as Towanda looks for the season sweep.
Canton (2-7) at CV (7-1), 4:30 p.m.: The Indians took the first one and currently lead the Class A standings.
Saturday, April 26
Bucktail (0-1) at Canton (2-7), 10 a.m.: A good chance for a win as Canton ends the week with a non-league contest.
Wyalusing at Central Columbia Tournament: The Rams make their annual trek down south to finish off a week of five games in six days.
Notre Dame at Towanda (4-5), 1:30 p.m.: Towanda ends the week with another team from North of the Border as they scratch to get to .500.
Troy (6-4) at Sullivan County (1-7), 2 p.m.: The Trojans end the week with a road trip to Laporte as the Griffins come in on a 5-game losing streak.
BOYS’ TENNIS
Monday, April 21
Towanda (5-5) vs Galeton (3-2) at Wellsboro, 4 p.m.: The two teams are meeting in Wellsboro as part of a make-up.
Tuesday, April 22
Wellsboro (8-4) at Towanda (5-5), 4 p.m.: The Knights host the defending NTL champions. Wellsboro won the first one, but if the Knights pull the upset they’ll be tied in the league standings.
Friday, April 25
Towanda (5-4) at South Williamsport (7-2), 4 p.m.: The Knights end the week with a tough non-league contest as South is ranked in the top six in the district.
