NTL BOYS' TENNIS: TOWANDA FALLS IN TIGHT ONE TO WELLSBORO (2025-04-22)
Northern Tier Sports ReportTOWANDA — Towanda boys’ tennis nearly upset the defending league champions, Wellsboro, falling 3-2 in league action Tuesday.
Towanda took first singles and the doubles, while the Hornets took the other three singles matches.
The deciding match second singles where Wellsboro’s Lucas Cuneo won 6-4, 6-3 over Towanda’s Rian Hennessy.
At first singles Knight Bayley Poll won 6-3, 6-2 against Luke Rothermel, while in doubles the Towanda team of Jameson Harkness and Matrix McCarter won 6-2 over Liam Elkin and Stephen Poirier, while Wellsboro’s team of Braedon Abernathy and Cuneo beat Poll and Hennessy 6-2.
Poll and Hennessy won the tie-breaker 9-7 over Abernathy and Cuneo.
At third singles Wellsboro’s Mason Brill won 6-0, 6-1 over McCarter, while at fourth singles Hornet RJ Doughtie beat Dominic Johnson 6-0, 6-1.
Towanda (6-5) travels to South Williamsport Friday.
