NTL SOFTBALL: CANTON DOWNS SAYRE (2025-04-23)
Northern Tier Sports ReportSAYRE — Canton softball avenged an early season loss as they rolled past Sayre, 13-3, during NTL action Tuesday.
The Warriors jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first, then tacked on another run in the third. They scored three in the fourth to go up 5-0.
Sayre would out score them 3-1 in the fifth to get back into the game, 6-3, but a 6-run sixth put Canton out of reach. They added another run in the seventh for 13-3 final.
Cyra Hugo (2-for-4) had a double, 2-RBI, and two runs scored as Jaylee Ward (2-for-5) scored three times, and drove in a run.
Addi Pepper (2-for-5) had 2-Rbi, with a run scored, with Charleigh Anderson (2-for-2) hitting a triple as she scored two runs.
Tiffany Acla (2-for-3) scored twice, with Alyssa May (1-for-4) hitting a double with 2-RBI.
Emmalee McGhee (1-for-2) had a double with 3-RBI, as Tara Gilbert (1-for-5) scored twice.
Audrey Bastion (1-for-3) scored with Skylar Gowin (1-for-2) scoring, and driving in a run. Neveah Vroman scored, and had an RBI.
Ward got the win, striking out eight with two walks, nine hits, and three runs, two of which were earned.
Ward led off the first with a walk, and later scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Vroman.
May would draw a 1-out walk in the third, then later scored on a Hugo double.
In the big fourth inning Acla led things off with a walk, followed by Trinity Acla reaching on a fielder’s choice.
Two batters later Pepper singled in Tiffany Acla and Ward for a 4-0 lead. Pepper later scored on a wild pitch.
In the fifth Bastion would single setting up a 2-out hit from Ward to drive her in for the 6-0 lead.
After Sayre cut into the lead the Warriors responded in the top of the sixth, beginning with Gilbert reaching on an error. Anderson and Hugo would hit back to back singles to load the bases.
McGhee cleared them with a bases clearing double to make it 9-3.
McGhee would get thrown out trying to reach third but Canton got three straight singles from Acla, Gowin, and Ward to reload the bases.
Acla would later score on an error, then May brought in Gowin and Ward with a double to make it 12-3.
In the seventh Anderson hit a lead-off triple, then scored on a Gowin ground out for the 10-run win.
Canton (3-8) hosts CV on Thursday with a 4:30 p.m. start.
