NTL BASEBALL: TOWANDA PULLS AWAY FROM WYALUSING (2205-04-24)

WYALUSING — Towanda baseball scored in every inning as they rolled past Wyalusing, 16-4 in five innings, during NTL action Thursday.

An active first inning saw Towanda come out with a 5-3 lead. The Knights tacked on three more in the second, and four in the third to go up 12-3.


They pushed their lead to 14-3 midway through the fourth, but the Rams got one back in the bottom half. Towanda added two more in the fifth to secure the win.


Dawson Butts (2-for-3) had 3-RBI with a run scored to lead the Knights as Jack Wheaton (1-for-2) scored three times with an RBI.


Boom Thompson (1-for-2) had a double with two runs scored, as Gianni Assante (1-for-2) and Jack Tavani (1-for-2) both scored twice, and had 2-RBI.


Rylee Sluyter (1-for-3) and Hudson Stevens (1-for-1) both scored twice, as Brad Assante (1-for-1) had a hit. Owen Lane and Gage Evans both crossed home, with Evans also driving in a run.


Butts started, and went one-third of an inning to strikeout two with three walks, and three unearned runs to get the win.


Wheaton went the final 4 2/3-innings with four strikeouts, three hits, and one unearned runs.


Michael Phillips (1-for-2) had a double with a run scored as Kenny Mapes (1-for-2), Marshall Huston, and Logan Norton also scored.


Nolan Aeppli (1-for-2) had a hit as Isaac Shaffer drove in a run.


Shaffer started, and went 1 1/3-innings with one strikeout, five walks, two hits, and eight runs, while Dawson Bizo tossed 1 2/3-innings with one walk, two hits, and four runs.


Owen Brown went the final two innings with one strikeout, one walk, five hits, and four runs.


Sluyter opened up the game by reaching on an error. After Thompson bunted him over to second Wheaton drew a walk.


Sluyter would score on a passed ball, followed by Gianni Assante getting hit by a pitch. Butts followed that up by singling in Wheaton.


A Tavani hit then brought in Assante and Butts for a 4-0 lead. Tavani later scored on a passed ball for the 5-0 first inning advantage.


In the bottom half Norton led off with a walk, then later scored on a passed ball. Huston would reach on a dropped third strike, as Mapes drew a walk. 


After an out an error off the bat of Shaffer scored Huston. Mapes would later score on an error to make it a 2-run game.


Lane opened up the second by drawing a walk, followed by Thompson getting hit by a pitch two batters later. A Wheaton walk loaded the bases.


Lane and Thompson would both score on passed balls to make it 7-3, followed by Wheaton scoring on a steal of home for an 8-3 lead.


In the third Lane reached on an error to open things up, followed by Sluyter drawing a walk. Thompson was hit by a pitch to load the bases.


Wheaton singled in Evans, running for Lane for a 9-3 score.


Two batters later Butts drove in Thompson and Wheaton to make it 11-3. After a second out an error off the bat of Wil Shrawder scored Assante for the 9-run lead.


In the fourth Evans drew a lead off walk, followed by Sluyter getting a single. After two outs Assante hit a 2-run single to make it 14-3.


In the bottom half Phillips hit a 1-out double, then scored on an 2-out hit from Aeppli to make it a 10-run game.


In the fifth Shane Maghamez came in for Towanda and reached on an error. Tavani would come in to run for him.


Stevens then singled to put two runners on. 


An Evans ground out would score Tavani, while Stevens would later score on a passed ball for the 16-4 final.


Towanda (6-5) is slated to host Notre Dame Saturday with a 1:30 p.m. start while Wyalusing (3-9) travels to the Central Columbia Tournament.
