NTL BASEBALL: TOWANDA PULLS AWAY FROM NP-MANSFIELD (2025-04-29)
Northern Tier Sports ReportMANSFIELD — Towanda pounded out 11 hits - seven of them extra base hits - as they rolled past NP-Mansfield, 14-5, during NTL baseball action Tuesday.
With the win Towanda extended their winning streak to five games as they are two wins away from earning a district berth.
The Knights led 4-2 after an action packed first inning, then tacked on another run in the third. A 6-run fifth from Towanda saw them go up 11-2.
The Tigers came back with three runs in the bottom half, but a 3-run top sixth from Towanda secured the win for them.
Jack Wheaton (3-for-4) was a single away from the cycle with a home run, a triple, and a double to go with 3-RBI, and two runs scored.
Rylee Sluyter (3-for-5) had a double with 3-RBI, and a run scored, as Gianni Assante (1-for-5) doubled with 2-RBI, and two runs scored.
Boom Thompson (1-for-3) scored twice as Jack Tavani (1-for-4) doubled, had an RBI, with a run scored.
Wil Shrawder (1-for-1) doubled with 2-RBI, as Gage Evans (1-for-1) scored twice, and had an RBI. Dawson Butts scored three times as Avery Butts also crossed home, with Owen Lane driving in a run.
Wheaton got the win on the mound, going six innings with one strikeout, two walks, seven hits, and five runs, three of which were earned.
Tavani tossed the final inning with one strikeout, and one hit.
Sluyter led off the game with a hit, followed by Thompson reaching on a single. Wheaton then drove in Sluyter with a ground out for the 1-0 lead.
An error off the bat of Assante would allow Thompson to score.
Butts then reached on an error. After an out Shrawder doubled them both in for the 4-0 lead midway through the first.
Wheaton led off the third with a triple, then scored on an Assante ground out.
In the sixth Thompson drew a lead-off walk, followed by Wheaton hitting a home run to make it 7-2.
Assante doubled, then scored on an error off the bat of Dawson Butts. Tavani then doubled Butts in for the 9-2 lead.
Shrawder then got beaned, followed by Lane driving in Tavani two batters later. Evans, running for Shrawder, would score on a Sluyter single to make it 11-2.
In the sixth Dawson Butts led off with a walk. After an out he scored on an Evans single for a 12-5 lead.
Avery Butts would reach on an error to keep things going. Sluyter then doubled in Evans, and Avery Butts for the 14-5 final.
Towanda (8-5) will host Wellsboro on Thursday.
