NTL BASEBALL: GARDNER HAS BIG DAY AS CANTON TOPS MUNCY (2025-05-03)
Northern Tier Sports ReportCANTON — Bailey Gardner had a big day as Canton used a fast start to top Muncy 9-5 in NTL baseball action Friday.
Gardner went 4-for-4 with a home run, a double, 3-RBI, and two runs scored as the Warriors jumped to a 6-1 lead in the first inning.
They added another run in the second to go up 7-1. Muncy got one back in the top of the third, only for Canton to tack on two more in the bottom half for a 9-2 lead.
The Indians rallied in the fourth, scoring three runs, but couldn’t get anymore across in the final three innings.
Ben Fitch (2-for-4) had a triple, two runs scored, and an RBI, as Zach Colton (2-for-3) scored a run.
Michael Beers (1-for-2) and Carson Castle both scored, and drove in a run. Reed Taylor (1-for-4) and Aaden Dowling both scored, with Tommy Preston (1-for-3) getting a hit.
Colton started, and went five innings to get the win. He struck out six with two walks, five hits, and five runs, two of which were earned.
Taylor tossed the final two innings with a strikeout, and three hits.
Fitch led off the bottom of the first with a triple, then saw Gardner blast a first pitch home run over the left field fence.
Beers drew a walk, followed by Colton getting hit by a pitch. An error off the bat of Taylor brought in Beers and Colton for a 4-1 lead.
Dowling would draw a walk, followed by Preston getting hit by a pitch to load the bases. After a strikeout Castle drew a walk to score Taylor.
Dowling made it 6-1 as scored on a Fitch fielder’s choice.
In the second Gardner led off with a single, then scored on a Beers hit for a 7-1 lead.
Canton scored both runs in the third with two outs as Castle hit a single, then found home on a Fitch hit. Gardner then singled in Fitch for their ninth run of the game.
Canton (4-8) travels to Williamson on Tuesday with a 4:30 p.m. start.
