NTL BASEBALL: TROY TOPS TOWANDA (2025-05-12)
Northern Tier Sports ReportCANTON — Troy used two big innings to down Towanda, 11-5, in NTL baseball action Saturday afternoon.
The Trojans jumped out with two runs in the first, then went up 7-0 with a 5-run fourth. Towanda struck back with a 4-run fifth, but Troy answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning for an 11-4 lead.
Towanda got one more across in the seventh for the 11-5 final.
Brendan Gilliland (2-for-3) had 2-RBI with a double, and a run scored, as Reed Palmer (2-for-4) had 4-RBI with two runs scored.
Evan Woodward (2-for-4) had a double with a run scored, as Trey Teribury (1-for-3) scored twice. Mason Smith crossed home twice, Jack Burbage added a run, with Lincoln Chimics and Joseph Frye both getting an RBI.
Palmer started, and gets the win, going 4 1/3-innings with one strikeout, two walks, five hits, and two earned runs.
Frank Harper tossed the next 2 2/3-innings with three strikeouts, four walks, two hits, and two earned runs.
For Towanda Boom Thompson (2-for-4) scored a run as Jack Wheaton (1-for-4) had a double. Jack Tavani (1-for-3) scored, and had an RBI, as Gianni Assante (1-for-2), and Dawson Butts also crossed home.
Lucas Vincent (1-for-4) drove in two runs with Wil Shrawder getting an RBI. Owen Lane (1-for-4) also had a hit.
Butts started, and went five innings with six hits, three strikeouts, nine walks, and seven runs, five of which were earned.
In the first Gilliland singled then scored on a Palmer hit. Palmer scored on a Frye ground out for the 2-0 lead.
In the fourth Woodward led off with a hit, followed by Burbage drawing a walk. Towanda then got an out with a fielder’s choice off the bat of Teribury.
Smith would draw a walk to load the bases, followed by Gilliland bringing in Burbage with a walk.
A Palmer double would drive in Teribury and Smith for a 5-0 lead. Gilliland scored on a Chimics sacrifice fly, then Palmer scored on an error to make it 7-0.
In the top of the fifth Thompson led off with a hit, then after an out Assante and Butts drew back to back walks to load the bases.
Tavani then drew a walk to bring in Thompson for a 7-1 ball game. A walk to Shrawder scored Assante to make it 7-2.
After a second out Vincent singled in Butts and Tavani to cut the deficit to 7-4.
Troy answered in the fifth as Woodward led off with a double, then two batters later Teribury reached on a hit by pitch.
Smith then got beaned to load the bases, setting up Gilliland’s RBI walk to that scored Woodward. Burbage, Smith, and Gilliland would all score, as well.
