NTL BASEBALL: TOWANDA HOLDS OFF CV (2025-05-12)

WYSOX — Towanda baseball held off a late CV charge to pick up a 5-4 win in NTL action Monday.

The Knights scored a run in the first, then two more in the second for a 3-0 lead. CV cut it to 3-1 with a run in the fourth, but Towanda answered with two more in the fifth for a 5-1 lead. 

The Indians rallied in the seventh with three runs, but the Knights held them for the win.

Jack Wheaton (1-for-2), Wil Shrawder (1-for-3), Boom Thompson, Rylee Sluyter, and Lucas Vincent all scored with Dawson Butts (1-for-3), Thompson, and Gianni Assante all getting an RBI.  Owen Lane (1-for-3) also had a hit.

Jack Tavani went the first six innings to get the win, striking out 11 with four walks, five hits, and three runs, two of which were earned.

Wheaton went the final inning, striking out one with out hit, and one unearned run.

In the first Thompson would draw a lead-off walk, then worked his way around the bases to score on a passed ball.

In the second Shrawder led off with a hit, followed by Vincent drawing a walk. Two batters later Thompson drove in Shrawder with a fielder’s choice for a 2-0 ballgame.

Vincent would score on an error off a Thompson steal to make it 3-0 Knights.

In the fifth Sluyter led off with a walk, followed by Wheaton getting a hit. Assante then drove in Sluyter with a ground out, followed by Butts hitting in Wheaton with a ground out for the 5-1 lead.

In the top of the seventh the first five batters for CV reached, but Towanda retired the next three batters to seal the win.

Towanda (10-7) will finish the regular season up at Sayre on Saturday with a 4:30 p.m. start.
