NTL BASEBALL: OSTROWSKI GETS WALK-OFF IN WYALUSING'S WIN OVER CANTON (2025-05-12)
Northern Tier Sports ReportWYALUSING — Wyalusing baseball edged Canton, 5-4 in eight innings, to pick up the NTL win on Monday.
The Warriors took a 2-0 lead in the first, but the Rams got one back in the second. Both teams scored a run in the third, with Wyalusing tying the game up with a run in the sixth.
Canton broke through with a run in the eighth, but it was Wyalusing rallying for two in the bottom half of the inning to get the walk-off win.
Hunter House (1-for-3) had a home run, as Isaac Shaffer (2-for-4) had a double with a run scored. Ashton VandeMark (3-for-3) was perfect from the plate.
Kenny Mapes (2-for-4) scored twice, as Logan Norton (1-for-3) had a double with a run scored. Eric Ostrowski (1-for-4) drove in two runs, as well.
House went 6 1/3-innings with 11 strikeouts, three walks, five hits, and three earned runs. VandeMark went the final 1 2/3-innings to get the win, allowing three hits, and one earned run.
Zach Colton (3-for-3) had a double with 3-RBI to lead Canton as Ben Fitch (2-for-4) scored twice. Bailey Gardner (1-for-3) had a double with two runs scored, as Reed Taylor (1-for-4) also had a hit.
Colton started, and went seven innings for the loss. He struck out four with no walks, eight hits, and five runs, three of which were earned.
Fitch tossed against two batters with two walks.
In the first Fitch opened up the game with a single, followed by Gardner drawing a walk. After an out Colton doubled in fifth and Gardner for a 2-0 lead.
In the second House led off with a first pitch home run to get the Rams on the scoreboard.
In the third Fitch opened up with a hit, and would later score for a 3-1 game.
Wyalusing got that run back in the bottom half as Mapes hit a 1-out single, followed by a Shaffer double. After a second out Mapes took home on a steal to make it 3-2.
The Rams tied the game up in the sixth when Norton led off with a double, then scored on an Ostrowski ground out for a 3-3 game.
Gardner led off the top of the eighth with a double, then scored two batters later on a Colton single for the 4-3 lead.
In the bottom half Canton didn’t record an out as Mapes and Shaffer had back to back singles. A Norton walk loaded the bases.
Mapes would tie the game up on a wild pitch, then Ostrowski got the walk off single that scored Shaffer for the 1-run win.
Wyalusing (5-13) travels to Central Columbia on Tuesday with a 5:30 p.m. start while Canton (6-12) is at Bucktail on Tuesday, also with a 5:30 p.m. start.
