NTL BASEBALL: GILLILAND HITS TWO HOMERS IN TROY'S ROUT OF CV (2025-05-14)

Northern Tier Sports Report
WESTFIELD — Troy baseball rolled past CV 15-1 in five innings during NTL action Wednesday.

The win is Troy's sixth straight to end the season.

"We're just looking forward to the playoffs, and making a run at our goals for this season," said Troy coach Lyle Wesneski. "We are battle tested and ready."

The Trojans jumped out to a 9-0 first inning lead. CV would get on the scoreboard with a run in the fourth, but then Troy put up six runs in the fifth to secure the win.

Brendan Gilliland (2-for-3) had two home runs, 6-RBI, and three runs scored as Mason Smith (3-for-4) had three runs scored, and an RBI.

Evan Woodward (1-for-3) scored twice and drove in two runs as Logunn Heasley (1-for-1) scored twice, and had an RBI.

Cam Allen (1-for-2), Trey Teribury (1-for-3), Reed Palmer (1-for-3), Lincoln Chimics, and Joseph Frye all scored.

Allen got the start, and win, going four innings with five strikeouts, three walks, one hit, and one run. Frank Harper tossed the final inning with three strikeouts, and one walk.

In the first Smith led off with a hit, followed by Gilliland hitting a 2-run home run. Palmer kept it going with a single, followed by Chimics drawing a walk.

After an out Allen reached on an error to load the bases. That set up a Woodward 2-run single that scored Palmer and Chimics for a 4-0 lead.

Allen would score on a Teribury ground out for a 5-0 ball game, while an error off the bat of Heasley brought in Woodward.

Smith then reached, setting up a 3-run Gilliland home run for the 9-run first inning.

In the fifth Woodward and Teribury both reached to start the inning. Woodward would score on a wild pitch, followed by Teribury getting home on a Heasley hit to make it 11-1.

Smith would follow by hitting in Heasley for a 12-1 ball game. After a walk to Gilliland Smith scored on a ground out from Palmer.

Troy would get two more runs for a 15-1 final.

Troy (15-5) currently sit in the third spot for the district playoffs and will see who they get in round one.
