NTL BASEBALL: TOWANDA ROLLS PAST SAYRE IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE (2025-05-16)

SAYRE — Towanda baseball rolled to a 16-0 win over Sayre in four innings during NTL action Thursday. 

Towanda jumped out with four in the first, then tacked on nine in the third. They scored three more in the third to secure the win.


Jack Wheaton (3-for-4) had two doubles, 4-RBI, and three runs scored, as Dawson Butts (2-for-2) had a double, 3-RBI, and two runs scored.


Rylee Sluyter (2-for-4) had a double, an RBI, and a run scored, with Gianni Assante (1-for-2) getting a double with a run scored.


Jack Tavani (2-for-3) scored twice, and drove in two runs as Avery Butts (1-for-2) also scored, and had an RBI. Boom Thompson (1-for-3) scored twice, and drove in a run.


Hayden Stevens crossed home twice, with Wil Shrawder, and Owen Lane (1-for-2) both scoring, as well.


Wheaton went the first three innings for the win, striking out six with one walk, and one hit. Thompson pitched the final inning with one strikeout, and one hit.


In the first Thompson led off with a single then scored on a Sluyter double. After two outs Dawson Butts singled in Sluyter, while Tavani also got a hit to keep the rally going.


Dawson Butts then scored on a passed ball, followed by Tavani reaching home on an error for a 4-0 lead.


In the 9-run third Wheaton led off with a hit, followed by Assante getting a double. Dawson Butts then doubled both of them in for a 6-0 ball game.


Tavani would single in Dawson Butts to make it 7-0 Knights.


After walks to Shrawder and Lane Avery Butts singled in Tavani. Shrawder then scored on a passed ball for a 9-0 ball game.


Thompson kept things going with a walk. After an out Wheaton doubled in Thompson and Stevens to make it 12-0 Towanda.


After back to back walks to Assante and Dawson Butts Wheaton would score on a Tavani ground out for a 13-0 Knight lead.


In the fourth Lane opened up with a hit, then scored two batters later on a Thompson ground out for a 14-0 game.


Sluyter started the rally again with a single, then his courtesy runner Stevens scored on a Wheaton double. Wheaton later scored on an error for the 16-0 final.


Towanda will travel to Troy on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the opening round of the District IV, Class AAA playoffs.
