NTL SOFTBALL: TOWANDA TAKES LEAGUE CHAMPS ATHENS TO EXTRAS BUT FALLS IN EIGHTH (2025-05-16)
Northern Tier Sports ReportWYSOX — Towanda softball went into extra innings for the second day in a row, but this time they fell, 3-2 to Athens in eight innings in NTL action Friday.
Towanda led 1-0 after one, and then 2-0 after three. Athens tied it up with a 2-run fifth, then, after two scoreless innings, the Wildcats pushed one across in the eighth for the win.
Brooklyn Evans (2-for-4) had a double with 2-RBI, as Leila Cobb (1-for-3) and Molly Roberts (1-for-2) both had hits. Payton Perry and Tae-Lynn Brabant both scored.
Brabant went one-third of an inning with a hit and a strikeout. Aleah Johnson then went the next 7 2/3-innings with 11 strikeouts, eight hits, no walks, and three earned runs.
Gretchen Hiley struck out 17 for Athens in the win, with four hits, three walks, and two runs.
In the first Perry reached on a dropped third strike, then scored on an Evans hit for the 1-run lead.
In the third Brabant drew a 2-out walk, then scored on an Evans double to make it 2-0 Knights.
Athens would get a 2-out hit with two runs in the fifth to knot the game up.
Then in the eighth they got back to back singles to bring in the game winning run.
Towanda (11-6) is at Sayre on Saturday with a 4:30 p.m. start.
