NTL SOFTBALL: TOWANDA ROLLS PAST SAYRE IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE (2025-05-18)
Northern Tier Sports ReportSAYRE — Towanda softball rolled past Sayre, 17-2 in five innings, in their regular season finale during NTL action Saturday.
The Knights led 1-0 after one then scored eight in the second to take a 9-1 lead. They added two more in the third, then scored three runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings.
Tae-Lynn Brabant (4-for-4) was perfect from the plate with two runs scored, and an RBI, as Leila Cobb (3-for-5) scored, and drove in a run.
Brooklyn Evans (2-for-3) had a double with 3-RBI, and two runs scored, as Brynsen Vargason (2-for-3) had a double, crossed home five times, and drove in a run.
Aleah Johnson (2-for-4) had 2-RBI With a run scored, as Molly Roberts (2-for-2) scored, and drove in two runs.
Caedence Wells (2-for-4) had an RBI, as Kynlee Kunkle (1-for-3) and Hannah Crawford (1-for-2) both crossed home.
Payton Perry (1-for-3) scored twice, and had an RBI.
Brabant went the first inning, striking out two, while Johnson tossed the second, striking out one with one hit, and one earned run.
Cobb went the final three with eight strikeouts, one walk, one hit, and one earned run.
In the first Vargason drew a 1-out walk then scored on a Johnson sacrifice fly for the 1-0 lead.
In the second Brabant led off with a hit, then scored on a Roberts single two batters later. After a second out Perry and Vargason both drew walks to load the bases.
Roberts and Perry then both scored on a passed ball, followed by Evans drawing a walk. Vargason would eventually score on a passed ball for a 5-0 lead.
After a Johnson walk Cobb drove in Evans to make it a 6-0 ball game.
Brabant followed by singling in Johnson, then Wells drove in Cobb to make it 8-0.
A Roberts hit brought in Brabant for a 9-0 Towanda lead.
In the third Vargason hit a 1-out single then scored on an Evans double. Evans later scored on a Johnson ground out for an 11-1 game.
In the fourth Kunkle and Perry had back to back 1-out single followed by Vargason reaching on an error to load the bases.
An Evans sacrifice fly brought in Kunkle, followed by Perry stealing home. Vargason then scored on a Johnson hit for a 14-2 ball game.
In the fifth Wells and Crawford had back to back hits, with Perry then driving in Wells’ courtesy runner Ily Benjamin with a sacrifice fly to make it 15-2.
Vargason then doubled in Crawford, followed by Vargason scoring on an Evans single for the 17-2 final.
Towanda will travel to Hughesville on Tuesday in the opening round of the District IV, Class AAA playoffs. The game time is 4:30 p.m.
