NTL SOFTBALL: NEB WALKS OFF WELLSBORO TO CLINCH NTL SMALL SCHOOL TITLE (2025-05-18)

ROME — In exciting fashion NEB edged Wellsboro in a 7-6 walk-off during NTL softball action Saturday to clinch the NTL Small School title.

The Hornets led 6-3 going into the bottom of the seventh when the Panthers scored four runs to pull out the win.


“I’m so proud of the girls coming through and winning small school,” said NEB coach MaKaylah Leljedal. “It was our seniors last home game and they went out giving it their all We were down going into our last at bat but they used it and didn’t give up. They were able to get runners on and score four runs in the last inning. We are looking forward to districts and are excited to play some new teams.”


NEB jumped out early with a run in the first, and two more in the second. The Hornets rallied with two in the fourth, then added another in the sixth to tie things up at 3-3.


Wellsboro then took the lead with a 3-runs in the top of the seventh before the Panthers came back in the bottom half.


Orissa Gardner (2-for-3) had two doubles with a run scored, as Makenna Callear (1-for-4) had a double with an RBI.


Toni Herb (1-for-4) had a double with a run scored, while Kiarra DeLancey (1-for-3), Hannah Berger (1-for-4), Ava Lambert, Abby Keeney, and Isabella Kapr all crossed home.


Callear started, with Kelsea Moore coming on in the fourth. Callear would return to get the win. 


They combined for 10 strikeouts, eight walks, four hits, and six runs.


DeLancey scored the first inning running, with Keeney and Kapr both scoring in the second.


In the seventh Berger led off with a hit, followed by back to back doubles from Gardner and Herb. A walk to Lambert kept the rally going, with Keeney then reaching on an error.


Two batters later Callear drove in Lambert with a fielder’s choice to get the win.


NEB takes on Sullivan County on Wednesday at Elk Park with a 3 p.m. first pitch.
