NTL TRACK & FIELD: NEB'S DEWING HEADED BACK TO SHIPPENSBURG IN THE 1600 (2025-05-18)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportWILLIAMSPORT — NEB’s Creed Dewing will be finishing his high school running career at the Shippensburg as he qualified for the PIAA Championships in the 1600 at the District IV, Class AA Track and Field Championships Saturday.
Dewing ran 4:28.72 in the mile to take sixth, a little over a second under the state standard.
“I’m really excited,” Dewing said. “It’s going to be a good way to end the season. I would have like to have qualified in the 800, but it didn’t work out. I realize I’m on tired legs, so I’m really excited.”
It was a very fast 1600 with the top six finishers all running under 4:30, with the winner running 4:14.
“That front pack, I knew I had to stay in contact with them, and I was able to for the first couple laps,” explained Dewing. “I settled in a little too much on that third lap, but it was a really fast, hot day, so I’m pleased with the performance.”
40 runners from across the state qualified for the 1600 at states, with Dewing seeded 27th going in.
“I want to make sure I stay loose, stay ready, and when it comes to the race, I’ve just got to run my heart out and give Glory to God through the process,” said Dewing. “That’s ultimately the goal at states, is to run for him.”
Dewing was seventh in the 800 in 2:01.24.
Lex Cragle (125-feet, 9-inches) was 14th in the discus, while the 4x400 relay took eighth in 3:33.12.
The 4x100 relay was 13th in 47.34.
