NTL TRACK & FIELD: TOWANDA'S LARSON PUNCHES HER TICKET TO STATES IN THE 1600 (2025-05-18)

WILLIAMSPORT — Towanda’s Izzy Larson snuck under the state standard in the 1600 to punch her ticket to Shippensburg during the District IV, Class AA Track and Field Championships Saturday.

Running in a fast field Larson held on the final lap to run 5:16.89, just under the qualifying mark of 5:18.30, taking fifth overall.

“I’m super, super excited,” Larson said about going back to states. “It’s been a rough season, so I’m glad that I can make the time to get back there.”

Her 4x800 relay missed state time by a historically close margin (.01) on Thursday, so this helps ease some of that pain.

“That was super devastating,” said Larson. “I feel for my teammates. We put up a great race, we did everything we had to do, but I knew what I had to do individually, and I wanted to run for them to get to states.”

She spent most of the race attached to Wellsboro’s Lauren Kosek, who also qualified for states, along with NEB’s Gracelyn Laudermilch.

“I knew I had to tuck myself in, and my third lap is usually my worst, so I knew I had to gut it out,” explained Larson. “It was hard, but we did it.”

That final lap Kosek began to pull away at the end.

“That fourth lap, I just knew I had to push and give it all I had left, no matter how bad it hurt,” said Larson. “I just tried to stay as in contact as I could.”

This will be her second time running at states, so Larson knows what to expect come Friday.

“Keeping myself healthy, doing my runs, and maintaining a good attitude going into next week,” she said.

Larson is seeded 24th for states.

Teammate Mary-Kate Eberlin (2:24.39) was eighth in the 800, with Larson (2:34.40) taking 16th.

Marin Maynard (10-feet) just missed states in the pole vault, finishing third, while teammate Cheyenne Morgan (8-feet, 6-inches) was ninth.
