NTL SOFTBALL: WYALUSING POWERS THEIR WAY PAST LINE MOUNTAIN (2025-05-20)
Northern Tier Sports ReportWYALUSING — Wyalusing softball’s strong play carried over to the first round of the District IV, Class AA playoffs Tuesday, as they took care of business in their 10-0 win over Line Mountain in six innings.
“It feels good to see them take care of business early and coast through,” said Wyalusing coach Brett Jayne. “It give me the opportunity to clear the bench, and let all the girls get in so they can say that they batted in at least one district game. They didn’t seem to have any jitters. They put the ball in play nice. Without me going through the book I can’t remember all of them, but a lot of girls had really great days.”
The Rams took control with an 8-run second, then scored one in the third, before ending the game with a run in the sixth.
Rachel Wilson (3-for-4) had a home run, 2-RBI, and two runs scored on the day, as Kyle Carpenter (1-for-2) had a double with two runs scored.
“(Wilson) hit a towering home run that was a beauty, and that’s the capability she has,” Jayne said. “She’s really been a great team leader all year, so I’m glad to see that she could do that in her final home game of the season. Kyla Carpenter has really come alive here as of late putting the ball in play.”
Addisyn Bly (1-for-3) had a double, 2-RBI, and a run scored, as Treanna Nickeson (1-for-3) had a double, a run scored, and an RBI.
Emily Johns (1-for-2) scored, and drove in a run, as Addison Fluck (1-for-2) had an RBI, with Kirra Millard (1-for-3) hitting a double.
Kendra Millard, Kylie Pickett, and Ellie Adams (1-for-1) all scored, as Grace Burridge (1-for-1) had a hit.
Fluck struck out eight in the shutout, allowing three hits, and one walk.
In the second Wilson legged out an infield hit to lead things off. After an out Wilson scored on an error off the bat of Pickett for the 1-0 lead.
Carpenter singled to keep the inning going, with Fluck bringing in Pickett and Carpenter on an error for a 3-0 ball game.
Johns then reached on an error, setting up a 2-run double from Bly that brought in Adams - Fluck’s courtesy runner - and Johns to make it 5-0.
Bly then scored on a Nickeson double for the 6-0 lead.
After a second out Wilson hit the first pitch over the centerfield fence for the 2-run dinger and an 8-0 ball game.
In the third Carpenter had a 1-out single then scored on a Johns hit to make it 9-0.
In the sixth Kirra Millard reached on a double, with Kendra Millard coming in to run. She would score on an error off the bat of Callie Warner for the final run.
Wyalusing will now face top seed South Williamsport in the semifinals on Thursday at 5 p.m. down at Elm Park, weather permitting.
“One thing I can look forward to was that I was on two teams that 10-runned them in the finals of districts,” said Jayne. “I don’t think we can 10 run them, but I would like to make a game of it.”
