NTL TRACK & FIELD: TOWANDA'S WOODRUFF EARNS STATE SILVER IN THE JAVELIN (2025-05-23)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportSHIPPENSBURG — Towanda’s Brynn Woodruff came away with a silver medal at her first PIAA Track and Field Championships on Friday.
The junior took second in the Class AA girls’ javelin with a throw of 126-feet, 11-inches.
“It feels good,” Woodruff said about getting on the state podium. “It was very nerve racking, a lot of pressure.”
Woodruff came in as the top seed, and hit her best throw on her first attempt, but dealt with a strong headwind much of the afternoon.
“It was pretty bad,” she said. “I tried to fight through it, trying to adjust, see how the wind was blowing, and go from there.”
A couple times she tried to wait until it died down, but it proved unrelenting.
Lewisburg’s Teagan Osunde won with a throw of 141-feet, 5-inches. Her first attempt was 133-feet, 10-inches, and after seeing everybody came up short, unleashed the 140-foot throw.
Still, coming so close for Woodruff is good motivation for next season.
“It definitely motivates me to do a lot better, and work a little harder,” she remarked. “And to have more confidence.”
In the boys’ Class AA discus throw Varrius Farrell was 16th out of 26 with a throw of 135-feet, 3-inches.
He’ll be in the shot put competition on Saturday afternoon.
Izzy Larson dropped out midway through the girls’ Class AA 1600 race.
