NTL SOFTBALL: TROY FALLS TO SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT IN D4, CLASS AA TITLE GAME (2025-05-27)

Northern Tier Sports Report
WILLIAMSPORT — Troy ran into a buzzsaw of a team in South Williamsport during the District IV, Class AA softball title game Tuesday. The Mounties took advantage of five Trojan errors to pull away for an 11-1 win in six innings to claim their fourth straight district title.

South jumped out with a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the tough inning was in the second when they racked up five runs - all with two outs and after two errors - to take a 7-0 advantage.

After a scoreless third the Mounties tacked on another run in the bottom of the fourth.

Troy got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth, but South ended the game with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.

The Trojans got seven hits off South’s pitcher Alizabeth Schuler and did a good job putting the ball in play as she had just one strikeout. However, the South defense was errorless behind her, keeping the Trojan offense contained.

Haidyn Watson (2-for-3) had an RBI to lead Troy as Marlee Stanton (1-for-3) scored their run. Lauren Ridall (1-for-2), Kali Ayres (1-for-3), Lauren Reed (1-for-3), and Amber James (1-for-3) all had hits on the day.

Freshman Erinn Knapp started, and took the loss, striking out three with no walks, five hits, and seven runs, though just one was earned, as she went 1 2/3-innings.

Olivia Champluvier tossed the final 3 2/3-innings, allowing five hits and four runs, with three of them earned.

Troy threatened in the first with two runners on but South got out of the jam with a line out.

In the second the Mounties used a hit and an error to get ducks on the pond, then brought both of them home for a 2-0 lead.

Their big inning saw them get back to back 1-out hits, but Knapp induced a pop up for catcher Ridall for the second out.

However, two straight errors allowed two South runs to score, then two back to back  hits brought in three more runs for the 7-0 lead.

The Mounties used a run scoring double in the fourth to make it an 8-0 ball game.

In the sixth James and Stanton had back to back 1-out hits. South would get the lead runner on a fielder’s choice for a second out.

Watson then hit a single to right field. Stanton was held up at third, but the runners behind her - Champluvier and Watson - nearly over ran.

That led to a pickle in the middle infield, giving Stanton enough time to score before the Mounties got Champluvier at third to end the inning.

In the sixth South’s lead off batter would get on by error. After an out and a hit by pitch the Mounties got a single and a double to end the game.

This was Troy’s first district title appearance since 2011 as they finish the year 14-7.
