NTL SOFTBALL: TOWANDA POSTS A STRONG 2025 SEASON (2025-06-01)

Northern Tier Sports Report
Towanda softball had one of their best seasons in recent memory, finishing with a 12-6 record and recording several big wins on the season.

“I’m so proud to have had the opportunity to coach such a great group of girls this year,” said Towanda coach Caitlyn Crawford. “We played in some tough games each week and our girls went out and fought every time. They never gave up. Our NTL is one of the strongest around and you just can’t take any team lightly. Tae-Lynn Brabant and Aleah Johnson both had great seasons on the mound for us. They pitched in some tight games with extra innings and handled the pressure well and stayed composed. Our offense struggled a little towards the end of of this season but I do feel our defense was strong all year. Unfortunately, we were hoping to go a little deeper into the playoffs and were sad to see this season come to an end so soon but we have some big shoes to fill next year as three seniors graduate.”

They opened with a 4-2 win over Wyalusing after falling in close games to Athens (2-0) and NP-Liberty (6-3).

The Knights rebounded with wins over Wellsboro (16-2) and Susquehanna (10-0), followed by a close loss to Troy (8-6).

After that Towanda went on a 7-1 spurt beginning with wins over Canton (18-1) and NEB (4-2).

They would fall to South Williamsport (13-4) but then rattled off five straight wins, beating Wyalusing (2-0), NPL (4-2), Wellsboro (10-0), Troy (6-4), and Williamson (4-2).

They fell to Hughesville (5-0) to end the run, but rebounded to beat CV (6-1) and Sayre (17-2).

The Knights ended the season with a tough 3-2 loss to Athens.

In district play they fell to eventual district runners-up Hughesville 3-0.

Brynsen Vargason (.389) led the team at the plate with six doubles, 10-RBI, and 17 runs scored.

Johnson (.387) had five doubles, two home runs, and 13-RBI, as Brooklyn Evans (.349) led the team with nine doubles to go with two home runs, 17-RBI, and 13 runs scored.

Payton Perry (.348), and Leila Cobb (.317) were two other starters that hit over .300 on the season. Perry had a team high 19 runs scored, while Cobb drove in 12 runs and scored 11.

Tae-Lynn Brabant also had 12-RBI , with 11 runs scored, with Kynlee Kunkle crossing home 11 times, as well.

Brabant got the lion’s share of innings at 71 2/3 as she struck out 80 with a 2.149 ERA.

Johnson tossed 47 1/3-innings with 69 strikeouts and a 3.106 ERA.

They say good-bye to seniors Brabant, Johnson, and Kunkle but return six of their starters for 2026.

“I do believe that we have a strong group of girls returning next year,” Crawford said. “We are already looking forward to it and it will be here again before we know it.”
