NTL SOFTBALL: WYALUSING SHOWED IMPROVEMENT THROUGHOUT THE 2025 CAMPAIGN (2026-06-14)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportIt was a unique season for Wyalusing softball as they got progressive better as the weather grew warmer. They started off slow, made some adjustments, and were playing their best ball by the time districts came around.
“After a slow start I felt the girls started playing much better ball mid-season, and played much better against the better teams in the league,” said coach Brett Jayne. “A couple of tough losses in the middle made us play tough through the final stretch.”
They opened straight into divisional play and went 0-4 against NPL, Towanda, Troy, and Athens.
However, they rebounded with a win over Blue Ridge (15-5), which sparked a five game win streak that saw them beat Wellsboro (6-4), Class A state runners-up NEB (8-7), CV (5-1), Canton (15-3), and Wyoming Area (3-0).
Two tough loses followed to Williamson and Towanda, but they were able to get one over at Troy (8-5) to split the season series.
They ended up with two more losses to Athens and Northwest, but ended the season on a five game winning streak.
They beat Wellsboro (14-1), Sayre (11-0), Canton (4-1), Montgomery (11-6), and ended the regular season with a win over NPL (4-2).
They rolled over Line Mountain in the district quarterfinals, but then fell to eventual state runners-up South Williamsport in the district semifinals.
“Qualifying for districts is always nice,” Jayne said. “Picking up a district win over Line Mountain was big for our team. Coming up against South Williamsport in the semis is very tough, but I felt as if we played them better this year than last year, which is an achievement for our girls.”
Addisyn Bly led the team with a .484 average, while Rachel Wilson hit .355. Treanna Nickeson (.316) also hit over .300.
“Addisyn Bly had another great year at the plate, leading the team,” Jayne said. “Rachel Wilson brought great leadership. Kylie Pickett will be missed with he pitching, and her second base performance. Treanna Nickeson finished the year strong, and had some great defensive plays.”
Jayne felt several younger players stepped up by the end of the season.
“Kyla Carpenter improved on her hitting with a .274 average, and limited strikeouts,” he said. “Kirra Millard had a great year behind the plate in her first year as a catcher - she hit .259 with limited strikeouts. Josie Ferris moved to first base and did a great job, batting .293 and coming on strong at the end of the season.”
Addison Fluck returned to the circle, and held down the position.
“Shaking off a rough start she was pitching very good mid-season through the end,” said Jayne. “This team had a great support system from the bench with young players Ellie Adams, Callie Warner, and Raelea Havey adding to our success. We’ll also miss the other two seniors - Grace Burridge and Alaina VandeMark - both helped contribute to our team’s success. Maddison Adams has improved tremendously, and freshman Marci Gowin contributed with hitting and pinch running. Kenda Millard had many important roles on the team, we can use her any place on the field and as a courtesy runner. She’s also willing to help wherever she’s needed.”
The Rams will lose two starters in Wilson, and Pickett, but have been using the next man up mentality the last several years, and it’s brought them success as they stay consistent.
Going forward several teams around the area say good-bye to big senior classes Wyalusing will be looking to work their way up the standings.
