AS FALL SPORTS START NTL LOOKING FOR OFFICIALS (2025-08-01)
Northern Tier Sports ReportAs fall sports are about to begin here’s a reminder that the NTL is always looking for sports officials of all stripes. This football season will see nine NTL hosted games played on Saturday due to a shortage of officiating crews.
The games that have been moved are Week 1’s Towanda at CV (6 p.m.), Week 3’s Wellsboro at Wyalusing, Week 4’s NP-Mansfield at Canton (1 p.m.), Week 5’s Sayre at Muncy, Week 6’s Sayre at Northwest, Week 8’s Wyalusing at Athens (3:30 p.m.), and Week 9’s NP-Mansfield at CV and Canton at Sayre.
There will also be a Week 2 game moved to Saturday but it hasn’t been decided which contest that will be.
While Canton football typically has a Saturday game for their Hall of Fame induction, and some teams like to do homecoming on Saturday, the majority of these games were moved to Saturday because of low officiating numbers.
In the past there have been Thursday Night games, unless something emergent comes up that likely won’t be the case this year.
Other sports are also bumping up against the ceiling as AD’s work to get every game officiated. In the past games have been moved due to lack of officials, or game times have been changed to accommodate the longer travels some officials have to make.
It’s not too late, or too early, to think about being an official, and if you ask any official out there now they can explain what it takes to put on the stripes.
