NTL GIRLS' SOCCER: INFUSED WITH YOUTH TOWANDA EXPECTS TO BE BETTER IN 2025 (2025-08-19)

Northern Tier Sports Report
With an experience group of upper classmen and buoyed by a talented freshmen class the Towanda Black Knight girls’ soccer team has a good feeling about the 2025 season.

“It’s helped a lot with our open fields over the summer,” first year coach Josh Maye said about having 11 juniors and seniors. “I depend on our seniors, and even some of the other girls that have been on this team, to really lead and help. We have great numbers this year, so we’re excited about that. I think we’ve got a good mix of veteran players along with some newcomers that are really going to help.”

They may have the biggest hole to fix of any team in the NTL, losing the program’s all-time leading scorer in Anna Dunn to graduation.

But that’s the only loss they have as they boast five seniors that have played all different levels of the game.

“It’s great, especially since last year we barely had enough to even fill the bench,” said senior Maggie Glantz. “Coming back into this year and having everyone back, and then having more freshmen come up, it makes it 10 times easier to have a bigger team.”

They played without subs at times last year so they’re looking forward to get breaks when they need them, which also should improve the quality of play on the pitch.

“It’s going to be great, and very refreshing, compared to last year without having any numbers,” said senior Clara Glantz.

One area they’re definitely need to find some production is scoring. While lose Dunn at forward, they do return her running mate in Clara Glantz.

“It’s going to be tough to come back and figure how to work around that since we only knew how to work with that,” Clara said. “I think we’ll be able to manage, and work well as a team together with the new girls coming in.”

Looking to join her up front is fellow senior Kennedy Heyer.

“We’re working together to get more goals,” Heyer said. “We’re really comfortable with each other, which is great, because we know where each other is going to be at all times on the field.”

Defensively Maggie Glantz and keeper Mya Maynard return to anchor things.

“Hopefully I’ll go back to defensive center-mid like I normally play,” Maggie Glantz said. “I find it easier trying to defend the ball rather going up and scoring, it’s just my personal set of skills.”

Senior Cheyenne Morgan returns to the midfield.

“It’s what I usually like to play, but you kind of have to fight for playing time and see how much you get,” she said.

Their coach Maye is hoping the competition for positions will bring out the best in everybody as they bring in eight freshmen.

“It’s a big freshmen class, which is tough, but they’re all very hard workers,” he said. “Everything’s been great so far, I feel the team’s getting along very well.”

That means their might be a lot of mixing and matching on the field until the find the right combinations.

“We’re trying to figure out everyone’s skill set first, and then seeing where they would match up best, whether they’re more of a defensive player or an offensive player, or prefer to be on the wings, or in the mid,” Maggie Glantz said.

All the players feel a winning record, and getting back to the playoffs, is well within reach, but Maye just wants to see them improve.

“I want them to build as a team and enjoy this season,” he said. “Obviously, from a competitive standpoint we want to win as many games as possible, but we are here to improve and get better from day one to the end of the season.”
