NTL VOLLEYBALL: WYALUSING IS UPBEAT ABOUT 2025 CAMPAIGN (2025-08-20)

Northern Tier Sports Report
Wyalusing volleyball is hoping 2025 is their year. They have a plethora of upper classmen with plenty of experience, and a hunger to finally make it back to district play after two years of looking in from the outside.

Coach Renee Broschart was happy with how their summer league went, and so far as they’ve gotten into pre-season.

“It feels like volleyball never septs, but it’s really exciting to be back here getting this season under way,” she said. “Pre-season is going fast, and we are trying to keep up with that pace so that we can build and get ready for the season.”

This large senior class - they boast seven players who have seen varsity time at some point - is hoping to finally turn the corner.

“These girls are an amazing group of girls,” said Maddy Broschart. “They put in the work all winter long, all spring long, and all summer long - hitting the weight room, club season, and coming to summer league; they’re a very supportive group.”

With 12 total between seniors and juniors Wyalusing finally has an ‘old’ team.

“It’s exciting to finally be one of the older teams because we’ve always been able to use the excuse of we’re a younger team, and that’s why people always said that they could beat us,” Kirra Millard remarked. “I’m excited to show that we’re no longer a younger team, and we can beat them.”

The one area they’ve put a heavy focus on is passing.

“I think our passing is getting better,” said Isabel McKeon. “We’re going to improve on that a lot.”

The two big ones they have to replace are Kylie Pickett (117 points, 117 digs, 96 assists, 55 kills, and 38 aces) and Rachel Wilson (64 kills, 115 digs, and 25 blocks).

Their leader in kills a year ago, Emily Johns (97) returns, while she also had 34 aces and 109 points.

Addison Fluck (71 kills, 42 aces, 124 points, and 10 blocks) is also back, along with setter Josie Ferris (249 assists). Kirra Millard (139 digs) and Abbie Tuttle (116 digs) will return.

With Wilson gone they’re looking to get better blocking at the net.

“Our volunteer coaches are really helping us,” Maddy remarked. “They’re helping us get our timing down, helping us learn what to focus on. Our middles are amazing girls, they are so talkative and easy to communicate with.”

They’re also not opposed to changing things up if the opportunity presents itself since they are deeper this year.

“I always think that it’s good to have competition rather than none, because it makes you a better player and a better person,” said Millard.

Effort is another thing since they have big goals this year they’re going to have to work to get them.

“It’s not going to be easy,” coach Broschart said. “The girls have heard that from me already, and our motto is 100-percent 100-percent of the time. A ball doesn’t hit the floor unless you hit the floor, you’re going 100-percent all the time.”

The defending Small School champions, NEB, will have a new roster this year, while Canton is also bringing back a more experienced team; and Williamson is always tough.

In Class AA they get most of the NTL Large Schools such as Troy, Wellsboro, Towanda, and NP-Liberty, making for quite the playoff gauntlet should they make it.

“They’re excited to take their game to another level,” coach Broschart said. “They’re ready, they’re hungry. They were so close to getting to districts last year that that’s the prize for them this year, and they’re excited to step their game up.”
