NTL CROSS-COUNTRY: WYALUSING HAS HIGH HOPES IN 2025 (2025-08-21)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportWyalusing cross-country enters a new era in 2025 with a girls’ squad that competed for the NTL Small School title last year, and a boys’ team that is being revamped with youth.
“These kids are so driven,” said first year coach Lori Kingsley. “Everything I’ve asked of them they’ve done, they’re risen up every time. The motivation is amazing, so my motivation, their motivation, it gets together quite nice.”
Right now Kingsley is working on building their base.
“We’re coming in building a base,” she said. “A little bit of pickups, hills, and then we’ll start to get into more of the harder stuff after the second week.”
The girls return state qualifier Megan King to lead the way once again.
“I’m really excited,” King said. “I think we have a pretty good team this year. We have some girls that came back. I don’t think we any new, but I’m really hoping we can make it to states as a team.”
Getting used to a new coach is always tough, but King has enjoyed Kingsley’s tutelage.
“She’s very nice, and I like her coaching style,” said King.
As for getting that elusive state medal, King’s been putting in some work towards that.
“I want to try to build my speed up a little bit more,” she said.
Parker Cunningham will be returning to lead the boys.
“I think we have a pretty good team coming up,” he said. “We’re focusing on making states as a team. We have pretty good freshmen, and I feel like our top five could break into the 19’s and 18’s.”
It’ll be a little bit different team this year with them losing several runners, including longtime stalwart Trennan Tewksbury.
“We’ve got Griffin (Sheldon) and Cody (Tuttle) coming up,” Cunningham said. “Griffin, he’s been putting in the work, and Cody, he’s been putting in the work, too, so I think they’re going to be pretty good.”
Cunningham been’s putting in the work, as well.
“I’ve going to open 5K’s like the Color Run, and the White Ash Dash,” he explained. “I’ve been putting in some practice, and I’m hoping I can get into the 18’s, maybe the 17’s.”
