NTL FOOTBALL: CANTON WELCOMES NORTHWEST TO START THE SEASON AT HOME (2025-08-21)

Northern Tier Sports Report
Football season is finally here - even the weather agrees - as Canton opens the season at home with Northwest at 7 p.m. on Friday.

“We are very excited to kick off the season with a home game with Northwest,” Canton coach Tyler Sechrist said.

They had a tough test last week as they scrimmaged state semifinalists Riverside on the road.

“Riverside still has a pretty good team,” Sechrist remarked. “We were in better playing condition than them, and had a few bright spots that we are excited to continue to build upon.”

The Rangers are in a similar spot as Canton in terms of youth.

“They are a young team that gained some valuable experience last season and are trending up,” remarked Sechrist.

KEYS TO THE GAME
Northwest - Hold their own in the trenches. Canton’s strength on offense is their offensive line, if the Rangers play them even on the line of scrimmage they’ll slow down the Warrior attack.
Canton - Get the ball to their running backs. Canton returns their two backs in Bailey Gardner and Dawson Burgess - out of the skill players they have the most experience, something they can lean on in week one.

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Shane Hemphill, Northwest, RB - Hemphill ran for over 200 yards as a freshman with one touchdown. As the Rangers break in a new quarterback he might be called upon to shoulder the load.
Isaiah Colton, Canton, OL - Colton is part of the veteran offensive line that Canton is going to depend on as they bring their skill players up to speed.
