NTL FOOTBALL: TROY ROLLS PAST SAYRE IN SEASON OPENER (2025-08-23)

SAYRE — Performances don’t get much more efficient than they Troy’s did against Sayre on Friday night, beating the ‘Skins 57-8 in their football season opener.

They needed just 24 offensive plays to amass 338 total yards, as they didn’t punt or have a turnover on the night.

Brendan Gilliland had two carries for two scores on 80-yards rushing, while Spencer Martin had two carries for 60 yards and a touchdown.

Kael Millard ran the ball four times for 45 yards and a score as Josiah Pesesky and Hunter Watson each had a touchdown run.

Under center Mason Smith was 5-for-7 for 52-yards with two touchdowns, hooking up with Trey Teribury twice for scores.

The Trojans had three first quarter touchdowns, beginning with a 37-yard Gilliland run. The Gavin Lykon-Leffler point after made it 7-0 59 seconds in to the game.

Pesesky then ran off 13 yards to pay dirt, followed by the Trojans completing the 2-point conversion for the 15-0 lead.

Gilliland ended his night with three minutes left in the first quarter with a 43-yard scoring run. Lykon-Leffler’s kick was good for a 22-0 lead.

The Trojans added four more scores in the second, beginning with Smith hitting Teribury for an 8-yard strike five seconds into the frame.

Smith then hit Teribury again, this time for a 16-yard strike to make it 36-0. Millard then punched one in from 2-yards out, followed by a 40-yard Spencer with 5:10 left in the half.

Lykon-Leffler went 4-for-4 in the quarter on extra points for a 50-0 lead at the break.

In the third Watson had a 31-yard run to pay dirt, followed by the Lykon-Leffler point after, for the 57-0 lead.

Sayre ended the night on a positive note as Hudson Malanowski punched one in from 2-yards out. Sayre scored the 2-point conversion for the 57-8 final.

Troy heads back to the valley as they travel to Waverly on Saturday with a 6 p.m. kick-off.
