NTL WRESTLING: YOUNG TROY GAINS PLENTY OF EXPERIENCE IN 2021 (2021-03-29)

Northern Tier Sports Report
It was a solid season for the Troy wrestling squad. They had just one senior on the roster by the end of the season, but still finished with a winning dual meet record, along with sending Seth Seymour to Regionals.

“It was a very unique year, but my wrestlers battled through it, and had a pretty good season,” said coach Brandon Spiak, noting that this looked a lot different due to the ongoing pandemic. “They improved as this short season went on, and we look to continue to improve moving forward.”

Nine different wrestlers boasted winning records by the end of the season, led by 20 match winner and North Section champion Seymour (21-8). He, along with Joseph Schwenk (113) and sophomore Mason Woodward (172) all made it out of the North Section Tournament to districts.

During the dual meet season the Trojans’ high point came with a 64-12 win over Towanda, ultimately splitting with them during the regular season. They weren’t able to wrestle Canton, and lost to NTL stalwarts Wyalusing and Athens.

They did beat NEB, NP-Liberty, Sayre and swept Williamson. In their three dual meet tournaments then went 7-8.

Going forward Troy will need to fill some holes up at the heavier weights - they had two forfeits up there by the end of the season - but should be solid from the lower to middle weights.

Individually, they’ll have Seymour returning, who’ll be looking to take the next step and make it all the Hershey next season - a season that, hopefully, looks a lot more normal.
