NTL SOFTBALL: CANTON FALLS TO CV ON THE ROAD (2021-03-30)
Northern Tier Sports ReportWESTFIELD — In a back and forth contest CV used a 4-run fourth inning to pull ahead and beat Canton 8-6 in NTL softball action Tuesday.
CV led 1-0 after the first inning, but a 2-run top second gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead. CV would score three in the bottom half of the inning to retake the lead 4-2.
A fourth inning Warrior run made it 4-3, but in the bottom half of the inning CV scored four runs, punctuated with a MaKayla Vargeson home run.
Canton rallied with two runs in the sixth and another in the seventh, but couldn’t catch the Indians.
The Warriors had 15 hits on the day, led by Allyson Butcher (3-for-4), who had a double and run scored.
Emmi Ward (2-for-3), Keri Wesneski (2-for-4), Molly Ward (2-for-3), Katie Shay (2-for-4) and Jillaney Hartford (2-for-4) all had multi-hit games. Molly Ward scored twice as Emmi Ward and Taylor Acla also crossed home.
Sara Saar (1-for-4) only had one hit, but it was a big one, a 2-run home run, as Jill Shay also had a hit.
Jill Shay took the loss, striking out four while allowing 12 hits and three walks.
After CV took a 1-0 lead in the first Molly Ward led off the second with a hit, followed by Butcher getting her double. They would both score, but the inning could have been bigger, as the Warriors had two runners caught out in scoring position.
CV added three more runs in the bottom half of the inning, scored four more in the fourth to go up 8-3.
Saar’s home run in the second cut it to 8-5, and Molly Ward led off the seventh with a walk. She would score two batters later, but Canton getting both runs in scoring position with one out.
However, the final two batters struck out, ending the threat.
Canton will host Wellsboro on Thursday with a 4:30 p.m. start.
