NTL FOOTBALL: CANTON TRAVELS TO WYALUSING FOR HOMECOMING TILT (2025-10-02)
BY CHRIS MANNINGNorthern Tier Sports ReportCanton (1-5) will head to Wyalusing (1-5) for their homecoming with a 7 p.m. kick-off on Friday.
Both teams are coming off tough losses last week but still have routes to make it to districts.
“My coaching staff and I will do our best to get the team focused amidst all the homecoming week activities,” said Wyalusing coach Rich Rogers. “I will remind them each day that there is still a football game scheduled for Friday night. We know that Canton is working hard to improve, they are well coached, and will come ready to play.”
The Warriors played well for a half last week against Towanda despite the long list of injuries.
“It was exciting to see how Owen Moore has progressed, especially his passing game,” Canton coach Tyler Sechrist said. “Last week the line did a great job giving him time, and Leeland Tubach had a career night receiving. The underclassmen on the team are getting valuable playing experience every week.”
They know they’ll have their hands full with Wyalusing’s strong run game.
“Wyalusing is a big and physical football team, and coach Rogers always has them ready to play on Friday nights,” said Sechrist.
As for the Rams, they’ve had a few close set backs early this season, but Rogers feels they can turn things around in the second half.
“We have talked as a team how there are still opportunities to achieve some of our pre-season goals,” he remarked. “It is my hope the effort they gave against Troy will only increase each week, and that this team reaches its full potential.”
KEYS TO THE GAMECanton - Slow the run. Wyalusing will nickel-and-dime Canton all night with their running game, and Rogers ins’t afraid of going for it on 4th-and-short. The Warriors will need to be ready to be tough in the trenches.
Wyalusing - Limit the turnovers. The Rams have shot themselves in the foot more than any team so far this season with fumbles and turnovers. If they can get them under control that will be a big first step towards reaching their potential.
PLAYERS TO WATCHLeeland Tubach, Canton, WR - Tubach gives Canton a big downfield threat for their offense as they cycle players in and out due to injuries.
Brock Slater, Wyalusing, OL - The Rams will go as far as their offensive line will take them, and Slater’s play will be key this week as they look to break their 4-game losing streak.
