THE WEEK AHEAD: A BIG WEEK IN GOLF AND CROSS-COUNTRY AS FOOTBALL, VOLLEYBALL, AND SOCCER NEAR THE END OF THEIR REGULAR SEASONS (2025-10-06)
Northern Tier Sports ReportJust a couple weeks left for the regular seasons of football, volleyball, and soccer, while golf holds individual districts, and cross-country runs in their final invite of the season.
FOOTBALL
Friday, October 10NP-Mansfield (4-3) at Troy (6-1), 7 p.m.: The Trojans host a Panthers squad that has lost three in a row after a 4-0 start to the season.
Sayre (0-7) at Towanda (1-6), 7 p.m.: Both teams are coming off big losses last week as the Knights fell to Athens, and Sayre lost to South Williamsport.
Canton (1-6) at Wellsboro (3-4), 7 p.m.: The Warriors hit the road again as they look to bounce back from their loss at Wyalusing. Wellsboro is coming off a loss to Troy.
Saturday, October 11Wyalusing (2-5) at Athens (6-1), 3 p.m.: The Rams will look to keep their momentum going as they travel to the valley to take on a Wildcat team that’s won three straight.
GOLF
Thursday, October 9 & Saturday, October 11District IV Golf Championships, 10 a.m.: The first round is at White Deer with the second round at Williamsport Country Club. Towanda, Wyalusing, and Canton will all have golfers in competition. In Class AA boys the top seven advance to states, in Class AA girls its top three, and in Class AAA boys its top two.
CROSS-COUNTRY
Saturday, October 11NTL Championships at NEB, 10 a.m.: The girls’ race is at 10 a.m., the boys at 10:40 a.m., the junior high girls at 11:20 a.m., and the junior high boys at 11:40 a.m.
VOLLEYBALL
Monday, October 6South Williamsport (6-8) at Canton (5-8), 7 p.m.: The Warriors won 3-2 earlier in the season as they look to snap a 2-match loss streak.
Tuesday, October 7Canton (5-8) at Towanda (6-7), 7 p.m.: The Knights broke a 4-match losing streak last week and will need to win four of their last seven matches to earn a district berth. Canton is chasing Sayre for the top spot in the District IV, Class A standings.
NEB (0-10) at Wellsboro (12-2), 7 p.m.: The Panthers take the long trip out west to take on the Hornets, who are currently in the top spot for the District IV, Class AA standings.
Sayre (7-4) at Troy (10-2), 7 p.m.: The Trojans get the upstart Redskins, who have won five of their last six matches.
Williamson (9-1) at Wyalusing (8-3), 7 p.m.: The Rams will need a win here to have any shot at an NTL Small School title. The Warriors come in riding an 8-match win streak.
Thursday, October 9Troy (10-2) at Wyalusing (8-3), 7 p.m.: A tough week for the Rams who coming into it after a loss at Sayre. Troy comes into the week in a 6-match win streak.
Towanda (6-7) at Sayre (7-4), 7 p.m.: A tough road one for the Knights as they make their playoff push.
Saturday, October 11Wyalusing (8-3) at NEB (0-10), noon: An early Saturday afternoon league match for both squads. The Rams won the first meeting 3-0.
Montrose at Towanda (6-7), noon: Towanda’s busy week continues as they play host to the Meteors in what could be a big week for them.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Tuesday, October 7Williamson (9-5) at Troy (0-14), 4 p.m.: The Trojans’ home finale. The Warriors won the first match-up 6-2.
NEB (10-4) at Wellsboro (10-3-1), 5:30 p.m.: The Panthers fell 1-0 on an own goal in the first match-up as both teams battle for playoff positioning.
NPL (8-7-1) at Towanda (2-11), 6 p.m.: The Knights look to break a 10-game losing streak while the Mounties are battling to make the playoffs.
Thursday, October 9Galeton (5-9) at NEB (10-4), 4 p.m.: The Panthers won the first match-up 7-1 out there as they look to hold a top four seed in the district playoffs.
Troy (0-14) at Towanda (2-11), 6 p.m.: Towanda pulled away to win the first meeting 4-2 over a month ago.
Saturday, October 11Meadowbrook Christian (3-5) at Towanda (2-11), 11 a.m.: The Knights end the week at home as they look to get a win from MCA.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Wednesday, October 8Troy (14-2) at Wyalusing (8-7), 4 p.m.: The Trojans look to end the NTL season undefeated as they face a Rams team playing for their playoff lives.
Towanda (3-9) at NEB (1-14), 4 p.m.: The Knights hit the road as they take on the Panthers. Towanda won the first meeting 3-0.
Saturday, October 11Troy (14-2) at Abington Heights, 11 a.m.: The Trojans get one final test in their regular season finale as they take on one of the top programs in the state.
