NTL FOOTBALL: TOWANDA LOOKS TO RETAIN THE T-BONE AGAINST TUNKHANNOCK (2025-10-16)

Northern Tier Sports Report
Towanda (2-6) will host Tunkhannock (3-5) as they battle to keep the T-Bone with a 7 p.m. kick-off on Friday.

“Tunkhannock is an athletic team that poses some challenges for sure,” said Towanda coach Jamie Wecker. “They run a bunch of different formations, so we have to make sure our kids line up correctly, and they run quite a few different plays out of those formations that forces the defense to stay honest. We need to play good, fundamental defense. On defense they show a few different fronts that can make the O-line blocking challenging.”

After a slow start Towanda pulled away from Sayre last week with some quick hitting attacks as they were able to get their athletes in space.

“Again, like every week, we try to improve on the fundamentals,” said Wecker. “But we also keep trying to improve with our football IQ, or awareness, keep asking the kids to learn from their playing time. If they make a mistake, figure out why they made it, and try to fix it so it doesn’t happen again. It’s all part of gaining experience.”

Playoffs seem out of the question at this point but Towanda is still focused on improving as they look to get some good momentum going into the off-season.

“We don’t really talk about winning or losing, per se, but we try to focus on what we can do to play as close to our ceiling as we can,” Wecker said. “Obviously, I think our ceiling has risen throughout the season, and we are playing better football now than we were earlier. If we can play fast and with relatively few mistakes, I think that will put us in a good position Friday night.”

KEYS TO THE GAME
Tunkhannock - Get their run game going. They have nearly 1,000 yards rushing on the season as a team with four different players over 100-yards.
Towanda - Stick with their blocks. If they can give their athletes enough time to get into space Towanda can put points up on most anybody.

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Lucas Ciprich, Tunkhannock, RB - Ciprich leads the team with 363 yards rushing and four touchdowns.
Cameron Allis, Towanda, OL/DL - Allis has 22 tackles coming into the game, two of them for loss. Look for him to have a big impact on both sides of the ball.
